I've been wanting to get to this location when the light is right for a long time. I finally took the 80 minute drive last evening and took several shots as the sun was getting low in the sky. This one struck me as a little different than what I might usually submit, but with a familiar bump in the background. Mt. Adams from Takhlakh Lake.
istD. ISO 200. DA 16-45 at 16mm. 1/50th f6.3. A little post processing.

That is different, and I really like it. Sort of a desolate look to it.

'This is more serious than I thought.....but it is still fun!'

Very cool. Was the boat there or did you drag it there for a prop? :)

I think the tone could stand to be less saturated. About 40% of what you have there is what I like.

The boat was there. I was trying to work around it and finally decided to include it and it turned out to be one of my favorite shots of the bunch.

Regarding the saturation of the tint, you may be right. It's pretty subtle on my monitor but I could have overdone it a bit.

I keep using that unsophisticated WOW description, but that's what came to mind first. That shot is fantastic for (at least) four reasons:
1.) The way you've composed
2.) The extremely sharp depth-of-field
3.) The toning
4.) The shadow detail

The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful area, but your efforts and especially your post-processing are outstanding and an inspiration. This would make a great print on metallic paper.

Less talk, more photos...

Very very fine photograph. You have really captured the mood and atmosphere beautifully. The dark zones and toning are perfect. Don't be afraid to defy convention. To lighten the shadows or change the tone would make it just another good picture, among countless other good pictures. This is unique and IMO is superb gallery quality work. Keep it up.

Clayton

Thanks Betsy. No green at all on my monitors. Maybe I've gone too far, or maybe it's a subtle thing that's exagerated by differences in monitor calibration. I'll take another look to make sure I haven't overdone it.

Thanks again.

Thanks Eric,

I was wishing the canoe wasn't there, but I included it in the photo because I couldn't work around it. It was out on the lake later and I took some shots from the same spot and they didn't seem to work as well as the one with the canoe. Go figure. I still have a lot to learn. ;^)

Thanks.

This is one of those times where I felt like putting my camera down and soaking it all up, but that wouldn't have made for a very nice photo. Most of all it was a nice place to be. I hope the photo conveys that.
