I tried to use a 6GB card (Hitachi microdrive) in my 8700 and it would not work reliably. I eventually gave it to my brother who has a Canon 20D. The card works fine for him.
Most of the time, my camera would not recognize the card.
I also have a 4 GB Hitachi microdrive which does work fine.
