Better to have good optics on a D100 than poor on a D2xs.

I bought a D2x recently secondhand for 2800 euro's. I bought it from
a Nikon-dealer with 6 months of warranty.
It had 15.000 shots only on the shutter (Opanda!), the exterior was in
absolute mint-condition.

But within a few hours I found out that the shutter malfunctioned, a

known issue, whenever you would turn the camera on, it would lock after the first shot.
Send it in and waited 6 weeks. Th entire shutter-box was replaced and
I now have a camera as good as new!

I still am very happy with the way things went, I am now holding a D2x,
while I was looking for a D200.

I must say, the D2x is brilliant, I love everything about it. I also
still own my D70, and i must admit, whenever I go out with the family, or
whenever I have to do some ad-hoc shooting, I take the D70, I only use
the D2x whenever I am on my own and out to for shooting, so maybe
I would have been more than satisfied with the somewhat more simplified
D200.

Taking pictures with the D2x is harder work than on a D70, but the outcome is brilliant.

I would probably buy and test it intensively within the first month. Worst can happen is that you have to have it fixed at own costs, you will still
have a cheap D2x then!

I would think this would be a first purchase as it is affordable and useful.
Another threa talked about a 28-105 working well.

I have D70(wife and son use), D100(sold),D200(sold) D2h, and D2x.I bought the D200 to try, but after shooting with the "h" and "x", I sold it to my cousin. Once you shoot with the "h" or "x" the rest leave so much to be desired. The focus speed is second to none.

I use the D2h and D2x exclusively, there is no comparison to the rest of the nikons.
D2x is an awesome camera!!! For that price, I would jump on it.

If you have to ask you don't need it......

It is really a pro tool made for those with talent who have put some work in...

You can get a D200 and for half the price and have a camera that will absorb your efforts....

Spend the rest for things that will last longer, depreciate slower, and which you will surely need (glass)

The point is - this is the same price as a new D200 here. I would eventually get better glass but need to last a few months till it can be purchased. The unpaid work I do involves sports, school productions, musicals etc where low light focus has been an issue.

I recently bought a 2nd D2x. I bought it used with 3000 clicks for $2500. The camera was basically brand new.

If the camera is in solid condition, buy it, and save for better glass.
