Canon small sensors cannot capture reds and purples accurately.

Forgot to add... Yes, the red channel is oversaturated in most point and shooters, and even some SLR's. Try shooting neutral straight out of the cam and things might improve a bit.

Saturation is responsible for many "accidents" in our images :)

Sorry for the delayed answer, I've been away on a short trip for the past four days.

I always shoot in "neutral" on my A620 and I'm finding the results much better than the standard ones. You can access "Neutral" mode through the same menu where "Vivid" is... On the A620 at least.

I don't need the extra saturation provided by the Standard shot, because when adjusting curves slightly (in PS) or using fill light and shadow in Picasa, saturation increases anyway... I even find I have to decrease it a little bit after... So I prefer the more neutral settings.
