Hi folks,

I am the proud new owner of an E20, my Sony S75 has served me very well for the last seven months but it was always going to be a matter of time till I had enough money to buy an E series camera, the final decider has been the comparison of E10/20 on Jaja's site the difference appeared to me to be enough justification to buy the E20.

The E20 feels natural in my hands after about an hour geting familiar with the menu's and controls, the Sony S75 menu system and operation was very good but the Oly for me is better.

The first difference that surprized me was the size and weight, they always look smaller in pictures and I won't be slipping it into my jacket pocket, the second major difference is the colour, quite subdued compared to my S75 but to me the Oly colour seems more like what I see with my eyes, then the wonderful lens with a real touchy feely zoom and focus rings, I am going to enjoy taking pictures with this camera.

Sorry to rant on but I'm like a kid in a toy shop at the moment, I have been reading posts on this forum for some weeks now leading up to my purchase and thanks to all the balance opinions I feel I have made a good choice even at English prices.

Thanks.

Brian.

Brian,

I hope you enjoy the E-20 as much as I have the E-10. I was also surprised at the size of the camera, but after a few weeks I made the plunge and got the Lipo grip as well. The assembly of the two is huge, but it handles really well.

We look forward to seeing some of your E-20 photos now.

Thanks Bill, I will post some shots soon, I am still trying to get the hang of the White balance, lots of my pictures seem to look slightly brown,but the weather here in England is a bit dull at themoment so everything looks murky.

Why do you feel the Lipo grip is necessary for you ? just curious cant be power as my batteries seem to last a long time but I'm using the viewfinder rather than the LCD to see how the batteries hold up, not realy an option on my last camera an S75.

Hi Brian,

Welcome to the Exx club. Enjoy.

Just one small pointer. Try slapping the E10 wb on 5500K. I use it almost exclusively unless I am shooting under incandescent (3000k) lights and it works extremely well.

Cheers,

Richard

Thanks for the tip Richard I will try that, it might save me hours of experimenting with settings.

Hi Brian;

Welcome to E club. I too owned the E20N for two weeks and haven't stop thinking about it. It's just a nice camera if you can live with some of it's limitation. The images are superb as you will soon see from your images.

The LIPO battery pack is the best accessories you can have for the camera. It allow me to do a whole day shoot and still be able to take 50+ pictures the next day. Keep a pair of 3CR as a backup, just in case. Happy shooting...

This question is for Richard;

You mentioned setting the wb to 5500K. Will this produce even better image quality then the AUTO wb setting. Just curious, I will try it out on my next shoot. Thanks for the info,

Brian,

Welcome to E10ism, it's a beautiful place.

I too came from a Sony S70 to the E10 over a year ago now. The first thing I noticed was how quickly the camera focused and that there was almost no shutter lag. The S70 took forever to trip the shutter.

One thing you will notice is that the colors of the Sony are much more saturated, imho almost too much so. The Exx cameras capture color much more accurately I think, although you may want give images a little more punch in ps but the choice is yours not the cameras'.

Enjoy your new camera, I know I have enjoyed mine

Kind regards,

Allan

Thanks for the encouragement Allan, I agree with you about the colours, there are things about the S75 which i will miss but no regrets about buying the Oly its a great camera, I am now on a steep learning curve so that I can get the most out of it.

Thanks & Regards.

Brian.
