LX2 - Here we go..

I don't believe it - they are just increasing the MPs (Fz and LX), nothing else. And because you handle now more MPs, you get bigger files but that decreases the speed.
Bad move.
Useless.
Worse than Canon.

The files will be even more processed and look uglier than they already do right now.
What's wrong with these guys?!?!
I've gotta get an LX1, keep my Fuji and forget PanaLeica for the next year.

Hi Mr Ralf,

it's far too early to be sure... the CCD in the LX1 is 16:9 format, will they replace it with the 10MP CCD which is going into the FZ50? what do we actually know about the performance of this new CCD?

I'm very pleased I bought the LX1 at a bargain price... for the LX2, with no improvement of the lens, everything now rides on what they've done with the CCD. Venus III is a non-entity as far as I'm concerned (unless they are crazy enough to drop RAW)

Kind Regards

Brian

You are right, let's wait until Monday (?) and see.
But if it's right, they are crazy enough to drop RAW.

Click on the black square next to the word "colores" -- I LOVE the look of the new black model (black lens barrel, black mode dial).

Wishes for the specs:
  • RAW -- I think this camera will flop if they drop it, as many happy LX1 users won't upgrade
  • RAW buffer
  • SDHC support
  • full USB 2 support
  • metering mode and/or AF mode selection using joystick, or at least a "custom" button that can be configured to access a frequently changed setting
  • faster lens (I know, this one is probably very wishful indeed, but f2 at the wide end would be wonderful.)
  • even more wishful: a means of using extension lenses, filters, etc.
  • I'd happily sacrifice some zoom range for a bigger sensor...though not if it meant losing anything at the wide end. (Don't care about more pixels per se.)
  • A better sensor will always be welcome, but I'm completely uninterested if better results are faked via a new JPEG processing engine.
  • Built-in iPod and cellphone. (Just kidding.)

The black one looks better to me.

I guess on Monday we should hear the specs, and I (like many I'm sure) hope and wish that the sensor is MUCH better than the old one.

The LX1 is fantastic, and I hope they are not stupid enough to get rid of the RAW option.

This camera is IMO designed to be the 'class leading' professional photographers side-kick. So lets hope it doesn't disappoint...

I'm surprised that Panasonic didn't make the LX2 with a retractable lens.

I really see no difference physically between the LX1 and the LX2 other than the little texture for the grip as someone pointed out. The best that we can hope for is a better / larger sensor. If Panasonic just adds more pixels to the camera and has no other major improvement, this will be a real dumb move by them.

mattmtl,
I share your wish list, and will add:
  • greater zoom range, like the Ricoh r4
  • more configurable noise handling
  • better image processing engine. Maybe like the Venus PLUS in the FX01?
One dream that seems to be dashed by the Spain product photo:
  • Slimmer body

Agreed Danny,

however, if they add a 10MP sensor and Venus III to smear the noise, and drop RAW, the jpeg output could be a little better than the LX1 and the reviewers who only compare out-of-cam jpegs for noise will be happy.

And I'll be happy I chose to pick up a bargain LX1 and work with RAW.

I hope I am wrong.

Kind Regards

Brian

Yeah, I saw the note about the same lens label in the product shot. Sometimes product shots are mocked up by people not intimately familiar with the product. Just hoping beyond hope ... :)
