I am scanning old black and white photos (using the Canon 9900F), processing through Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 and then printing on the Canon i960 (using PhotoPaper Plus Glossy). The B&W photos are terrible - washed out with a distinct red cast.

For color prints, I just learned about the color management system and installed the Canon i960 SP1 (Photo Paper Plus Glossy) ICC profile.

Do I need to change the profile? Are there special settings I need to use to get good B&W photos?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are not getting a acceptable b&w with the Canon profiles than yes you need to get a profile done for your ink and paper combonation. With proper profile you can get a preatty good black and white print with your Canon

if you plan on a lot of these though a Epson or HP printer might be a better choice for you.

Thanks for responding. I agree. Do you have a profile that you use? Or, how can I get one without spending hundreds of dollars on software and a colorimeter?

I make my own profiles with Printfix Pro. There are many places to get a profile done several posters around here offer them digidog and colorperfect come to mind. cathysprofiles.com is mentioned a lot and inkjetart.com is only $25.00 thats all that come to mind at the moment. Pic your favorite paper and send away for one it's the only way to get good color or black and white if the caned profiles aren't working for you.
