I suggets you talk to both Canon and the authorities. You might be able to assist with stopping the fakes, sale of stolden goods, or you might discover the seller is legit and you've discovered a bargain!

the picture it is not THAT funny by itself but thinking that somebody spent few hours working in PS to create this makes me laugh hysterically

somebody obviously had too much time on his hands...
 
There are many instances of brand faking involving the Canon brand - where some really cheapo P&S film camera has a Canaon logo slapped onto it to sell through a shady channel. I think it is starting to happen some with small digicams but hasn't been as much of a problem just because there haven't been many sources for crappy no-name digicams to start with. I have never ever heard of a really counterfeit DSLR and can't imagine who'd (be able to) make one.

Pretty unlikely. Unless you really understand that China does not respect or observe the rest of the world regarding the patent laws. Yes, China has duplicated many things the rest of the world has manufactured because they can without paying the penality. Keep in mind many of their people don't have a clue as to what a product is for, nor do they care. They are accustomed to living on much less. And much less they are paid.

A guy bought a brand new 1DMk2 from an ebay seller (who has 1592 positive feedbacks from selling $1.99 toys) for $1999. When he opened the box all he got was a brick. It that the 'fake' you're talking about? :)

The PR you are referring to is "the tracing of the six EOS350D's".
