Lens cap survey

I used 3/4" (approx) square Velcro tabs to prevent the dreaded Lens Cap Dangle.

The hard Velcro I put on the lens cap itself. It blends in nicely.

The soft Velcro I put on the bottom left side. It does cover part of the "DSC-F707" label and the BFS-fix blue dot. But this is a more out-of-the-way location than the bottom center.

I put another soft Velcro tab on the side of my tripod head. It is very much out of the way when the F707 is tripod-mounted.

You can see a picture of the Velcro in use:

WRIST STRAP

I didn't like the bulk of the Sony-supplied shoulder strap. I found a wrist strap from some device and use it, instead.

I mostly use the strap when my 4-year-old is taking pictures. His mom is a bit worried about him dropping the F707. But I trust him -- as long as he has the wrist strap on as well!

It is funny to see how he naturally assumes photographer positions, like the upside-down left hand cradle and the knee bend crouch. I don't do that, so I don't know where he got it from.

I will post some of his photos later.

Maybe you'd better not post his efforts. I'd hate to be put to shame by a 4 year old. LOL.

Ok....when you all first got your Sony cameras, there was a thin
black "Lens Cap Strap".
This strap, according to the manual, was supposed to be attached to
the cap then to the camera shoulder strap.
My 707 has one.
My s75 has none!

Lens cap survey hits #1 on the charts.
yes folks...just like the sticker survey, this will be regarded as
highly useless info with only one purpose to drive up the STF post

Who has actually done this?

my answer: NO lens cap strap...cap goes in pocket once i take it off.

I just give a tug on the black cord, retracting the cap all the way back to the cord-attachment point.

Quick, easy, works like a charm. I think it was mentioned in my Sony camcorder manual.

I created (well, sort of as best I can) a similar setup for my film camera. I actually have a supply of lens caps, cause I kept losing them. Now that I won't be losing any more, I'm hoping they'll work as coasters or something.

Howdy,
F707; Strap on; Label on; Label from first digicam (S85) on cell phone.

Don't like it dangling around.

Amy
Mine stays on well. It's a Marumi (Japanese) UV filter and it's
deep enough that the lens filter sits tight and snug.

Makes the lens barrel longer too... so maybe it does look phallic
after all! :-D

dang...i'll have to get one of those filters. My Tiffen only has about 3 threads and the cap does not stay on at all--cheersZip:P - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -BFS: NOSticker Status: ON...but on upsidedownPie Chute: UnCorked for the holidays - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Zipper,

I followed the instructions to the letter. Yes, it looks dorky just dangling there, but guess what???? I'll never leave it anywhere! I am notorious for that!

A seemingly simple question.

On my film cameras I always used velcro on the cap and on the camera strap, near the shoulder. My F505v didn't come with a shoulder strap—just some weenie little wrist strap.

So, first I added a shoulder strap (from my Handycam—my film camera strap was bigger than the entire digicam. Of course, it had to hold up almost 3 pounds what with lens and flash and... but I digress) but that was too narrow for a secure attachment.

So I tethered the cap as per instructions.

But then it kept flopping around and getting tangled up in the neckstrap—which, because of viewing through the LCD I never wore while shooting. So I slapped a piece of Velcro™ on it and then tried to figure out where to stick it (no comments from the Peanut Gallery, please.)

Finally I decided that the flash cover was the only logical out-of-the-way place on the camera. Now I have a digicam that looks like a miniature AWACS plane.

I am working on Velcro attached the flat transition part the strap. Early testing seems to indicate that the AWACS position might be less trouble prone.

Have always immediately attached the lens cap strap to the camera on all the Sony digital cameras I have owned. I am afraid I'll lose it.

It is a pain to have it hanging down in front of you when you're trying to shoot, though.

Kerry, you may have coined a new phrase. Hmmmm
