Hi everybody,

In your opinion, for the money, which one of those 2 lenses is the best?

Canon EF 75-300 III f/4-5,6 USM or Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 APO Macro super II

I really don't have more money to spend, and these 2 cost +- the same, but don'd know what's best...

Please give your opinion

Thank you very much.

The Sigma.

I've got one and it's good (used to say great - but then I got a 70-200mm f/4 L, so now I know what 'great' is). For the money, I believe it's one of the best zoom lens in that range.

I normally hate sigma, but my 70-300 APO DG was one of the sharpest, best built lenses in that range. It is built FAR faaaar better than the canon equivalent which feels like the cheap plastic toy it is. Optics are very very good. The only drawback is the very slow focusing speed. It is a lot slower than the canon.

The canon 75-300 is so bad you will be surprised. I can't imagine that the sigma is worse, and if anything, it's much better.

Get the Sigma, unless you need fast AF. I have the Sigma, and it is great optically.

Also, if you take the slow AF into account (with proper technique), you will still be able to capture fast moving objects. You just need to track the object with AI Servo for a while before you press the shutter.

Yes, but that is over twice the price of the other two. Also, if I remember correctly, you started out with the Sigma, yourself.

Thank you all for the comments.

Sigma was my first choice, just got little confused... but, i will go for sigma.

Again, thank you. ;)

I wish i did my research before I bought it...Its taken some good shot but with it zoomed all the way at 300mm it softens the picture to a blur almost..now im stuck with this lens...

add that problem to near zero contrast and you have the canon lens. All these price range lenses don't work their best at 300, simply the name of the game.

im gonna take some shots with it this weekend then i will post the pictures and see what you all think of them. crossing fingers that it will actually make a decent some photos...

I had the Canon....bought it right after I got my camera (300D). When we got a second camera, we bought the Sigma lens to go with it. It was so much better than the Canon, I ordered another Sigma and sold the Canon lens. I even sent the Canon lens back to Canon to have it calibrated and it was a lot better when it came back, but nowhere near as sharp as the Sigma. You won't be sorry if you get it. I would say it's the best consumer lens in that price range. Not comparable to the L lenses I now have, but still a VERY good lens.
