Laguna Seca - Cork Screw? #scratchesHead#
Yes. And you're right - that is a Formula One Ferrari.
In fact it's the car Michael Schumacher drove most often
in the 2003 season on his way to the driving championship.

So - whats a F1 car doing at Laguna Seca?

It's a demonstration event put on by Ferrari as the featured
marque at the 2004 Monterey Historics. The driver is the F1
test driver, and he attempted to set a new lap record. But
he didn't really have enough time to get used to the track,
so he didn't quite make it.

Hi J!

Ah, of course, the famous Monterey Histo!
he didn't really have enough time to get used to the track,
so he didn't quite make it.
In Laguna Seca you can always blame it on the wind that carries sand onto the track ;)

Cheers

It was an airshow back in the summer of -93 in central stockholm
with tens of thousands of people watching. The plane went down on a
small island called Långholmen which was an excellent spot for
watching the show.

I was so convinced that people had died that i didn´t even run over
there with my camera. I wasn´t too keen so have that on my retina
for the rest of my life. (Or maybe it was the fact that I had a
hangover).

Amazingly, the plane found just about the only spot free from
spectators and smashed some bicycles.

By the way: The picture was taken with Velvia film, then on to
fotopaper and later scanned into my computer, wich may explain the
crappy quality of the picture. A scan direct from the positive
should raise the quality some, but hardly enough to compete with
you guys.
It's still very impressive as the picture quality is much better than that of the video of the same crash that's available on the internet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0LBj_8xs_w&search=gripen

Spectacular! An awesome set of lenses in very capable hands. That shot your your pet is amazing.

That's an awsome pic of Fat Albert! Where was it taken?
San Francisco, during Fleet Week in August of last year.
That's Alcatraz you can see in the background behind the plane.

It's taken with the 250-600 all the way at 600mm, using a
monopod. That's basically full frame - just point the lens at
the plane and wait until the wingspan fills the frame, then
push the button.

At 1/1250 (and f/6.3) the shutter speed's a little too high -
I'd prefer a little more blur on the propeller blades. Maybe
I should get creative with Photoshop ... :-)

I found one, too.

It was taken after the Red Bull Air Race when "bees" were still making some show.

I´m not shure the pilot had any pride left - this was his second crash in public with this type of plane. Now - THAT´S an expensive hobby. (Or maybe "high burnrate" is a better word for it ;)
