Well, we lost the battle over the feeder in the back of the yard but we weren't going to lose the war. We just got another feeder and put it right off the back porch! Being this close to the house would keep the racoons away, right??? Well, at least we thought it would during the daay but apparantly we were wrong! This series was shot through the back sliding glass window with no cropping! I really like this camera, just wish it didn't have that battery issue!

I knocked on the window but it didn't seem to phase him!

Well, at least he found the suet finger licking good!

Whether him or her from the look on "it's" face in the second photo, you being there didn't bother "it".

I guess it is just an imaginary issue, I just don't like how after about 8 shots, the battery indicator drops to half using Energizer 2500 maH batteries. I carry plenty of batteries and one of these days I am going to give it a try and see just how many shots I can get on a set of batteries! Thanks for the comments on the pix though!

Where do you live? Are racoons very common there? It looks like a very cute animal. I'm from China/Canada...not too much experience with racoons.

Racoons are way too common here! This mom just had a litter of 3 kits and we see them a lot at night but for the most part they are nocturnal. It was pretty suprising seeing her during the day. Maybe that is the only "free" time she gets.!

Great capture! Mine always seem to come by nocturnally, so I don't get opportunities to photograph them. They're cute and pesky all at the same time!

As for the batteries...I can say this with certainty - if you find your rechargable batteries running out too soon, you HAVE to have defective batteries or camera!

I suspected with my original Sony 2500MaH batteries that the rumors of early battery power loss due to the LCD were a myth...because I seemed to be getting huge life out of mine despite mixed use, with flash, LCD, playback, etc. But this weekend proved it to me when I loaded a set of BRAND NEW, first-time charged Powerex 2700MaH batteries. I charged them Friday night, and shot nearly 300 pix over Saturday and Sunday...lots of playback too...mixed use LCD and EVF. And the batteries have plenty of life still left in them.

However - ignore the meter. I don't know if it is a fault of the meters, or if the inaccuracy of metering without Infolithium batteries is normal...but the meter is nothing more than a colorful, useless icon. I've seen it say 1/2 power after a few shots...full power after being off and on again, down to 1/4 power after shooting for 3 hours, then back to 1/2 power next time it was turned on...then back to 1/4, then back to full again after being off for a day.

Without an infolithium battery, these little 4-LED meters are pointless...so simply ignore them. For pocket change, you can have two more charged batteries in your pocket, ready if needed...have faith in the camera though...because you should have no problem exceeding 350-400 shots of mixed use, including hours of on-time.

In my mind...H5 short battery life myth BUSTED!

Do waht I did.

I was photographing a huge garden spider that had taken up residence near my front door. I hate spiders.

When I had shot all I wanted I said, outloud, I will photography you again tomorrow and then kill you.

The next morning she was gone.
