Hi folks,

A while ago somebody on this tread asked me for the settings which
I mostly use. (I think it was Nicole).

By now I have made a website which will show the settings
by far almost of each picture.

I have the camera now for three months and I’m still learning.

The last shots (pictures from the park) I have taken in fine mode (jpg 2560 x 1920)
and I’m very pleased with the out come.
The pictures from the ducks was only levels by Photo Shop 6.0 and no
Sharpening.

In my opinion is this digital camera not only great on paper, but when you understand him
It is a great digital camera !

Keep on practicing
(I know I will ;-)

Roland....I didn't ask, but sure thank you for sharing. Great pics, and you've got a great 'photo eye'. Nice work. I've read and understand the RAW settings, but why do you do everything in RAW? Are the results that different? I get great shots in fine and less (but stay in fine or superfine). What advantages do you see in staying with the RAW settings?

Hi John,

Thanks for the compliments !

As you can see the last pictures are made in the fine mode and I will probably stay shooting in this mode.
Indeed I see also no advantages (for now) in staying In the RAW settings.

Earlier in this tread is said that there is also no different making pictures in the RAW or fine mode for the printer. That is what I want to try out.

a happy shooting ! :-)

I think the differences will be noticable on the printer only if you blow up your images to very large sizes. I have tried RAW, but I think DIVU takes much more time to covert them than what PhotoShop and CorelPhotoPaint need in order to make the correct adjustments. I think it is only useful for tricky shots and those that you want to print at very large sizes. This way, you will not get any degradation due to JPG artifacts.

Finally, I think, in order to see any defferences on paper you muct really have a VERY good colour laser printer or something even better.

Hi Pabletto,

Thanks for your reply.
Till now I have experienced that the raw settings will give you great prints.
I will try it out with the jpg.
Somebody on these tread convert the jpg to tiff just then print them out.
I think also worth to try.

BTW
I find some of your pictures are well composed.
For instance I like pic 0052 (Westminster Abbey)

Keep on making pictures !;-)

I have not tried printing any RAW pics, but once you have done it can you please provide the results from your comparison?

I think, what they must have meant is that they saved as TIFF because they probably needed to crop or resize. This way the photo's quality was not downgraded. Or possibly they saved the files as TIFF files after DIVUed in order to minimise JPGs artifacts. I can't think of any other reason of why someone would convert to TIFF just for the shake of printing.

Thank you for your comments.

Well, I am going away for about two weeks, so I guess I will come back with some good shots. I will, of course, post them.

Hi Pabletto,

At this moment it is not my priority thus probably it will take some time
before I start with the small tests. But if I have more answers I let you know.

I have heard that a tiff is a better file for the printer.
It seems strange to convert a small kb file to a bigger kb-file

it becomes better, but it is not an issue of the pixel count this will stay the same.
So may be it make sense…….

And may be there is already in answer in this forum …….

Have a nice holiday !;-)

Roland

Roland:

What a wonderful resource you've created. Do you think you might get time, in the next month or so, to create a similar page dedicated to indoor shots, using the flip-up flash that is attached to the D7? I think that alot of us out there could benefit from something like this.

Thanx, and have a wonderful holiday.
