What kind of lens are you looking for? Fixed, zoom, macro, etc.? What lenses do you have now, and what focal lengths would you like?

I will just have the standard 18-55 mm nikkor lens that will come with the D50. Im a beginner so I dont know alot about lens types but do know that I plan on taking alot of sport pics of my kids from far distances.

For zoom, I"m a fan of the 70-210 F4-5.6 D ( I think that's right)

Get your self a used nikon 300mm f/4 non-AFS or a Nikon 180mm f/2.8 from KEH.com there isn't a zoom under $1000 that will even come close to the quality of either of these lenses.

Then there is always the Sigma 70-300 APO DX for under $200. which is a good buy for the money....Mark
