Fun behind the lens today (m)

  1. 2 is just great. Perfect composition and colour.

It was 96 degrees at 4pm tonight, breaking a record of 91 degrees set in 1990 which set the highest record on this date since 1875 when they started keeping track of this stuff. To begin the day we had thunder, lightening and rain. It was 104 in the inland valleys here in San Diego today. I don't know what the actual humidity was but it felt like at least 80%. It was down right oppressive. ICK!! Bizarre weather indeed!
Your flutterby is pretty, the tomatos juicy looking, the sunset
beautiful and now I am hungry. I think your post was very effective
:)

I went down to the beach tonight hoping to capitalize on the recent
cloud cover and the skies cleared about 2hrs before sunset. Have
you noticed our weather has been very weird lately?

Hi there,

I see that you're living in San Diego :)

I'll be there in a few days for a business trip. Where should I go to find good price on lenses (for Canon) and electronics? (memory card, Ipod...)

Thanks for your help !

Butterfly....came out pretty DANG good, LaRee! Your sunset is beautiful too and with being able to grow those tomatoes - paradise, I'd say! I love your tomato photos which are very sharp and colourful! I used to grow Lemon Boys also and agree that the flavour is terrific - something I didn't expect from a 'not red' tomato :-) I've never heard of the chocolate ones but used to grow an heirloom called Brandywine that had those browny tones and which also had great flavour! All this food talk is making me hungry!

Marcia

And not just the tomatoes! I love that moth AND the gorgeous sky. You did have fun behind the lens indeed!!

But the tomatoes--I have to have a routine blood test this morning and can't touch a bit of food until afterwards. That description of the yellow . . . well, I might have to have tomoatoes for my late breakfast.

I'm sure your newfangled tomatoes are sweet and all, but I'm also sure that they can't beat my memories of the tomatoes I used to pick as a little kid, out in the field, big super-juicy beefsteak tomatoes, warmed by the Sun, aside from picking them and putting them into lugs, occasionally smashing one into my mouth. What a delicious memory! Alas, back to the present... Nice photos!

your moth/butterfly shot. Your tomatoes remind me of what those little green, grape-sized things in my garden may turn into. BTW, aparently you are now using PSPX----is it all that great over PSP9? I remember when you bought it but had it in my mind that you weren't that impressed.

The light on your Cabbage Butterfly is perfect. They really are attractive insects! Dazzlling sunset - no doubt due in part to your tropical weather. Great shooting there!

tomatoes in all forms and colors. Nice job. When I was a kid, I had a small garden and some tomatoe plants with unripe fruits. I can wait for it to ripen and tried to eat it. Not good of course but not wanting to waste my foolish action, just put some salt into it and I was able to finish it. It took me a while to also acquire the taste for green tomatoes.

It sounds like a delicious memory John. The best part about having tomato plants growing in my yard is being able to pluck a perfectly ripe one off the plant that is warmed by the sun and taking a big bite! I am having fun with the heirlooms I planted this year. They all look different when they are ripe. They don't really produce the way the San Diego Hybrids do, but what they do produce is worth it.
Alas, back to the present... Nice photos!
Funny how some days just turn into good photo days even when they aren't planed. Thanks John!

Thanks for your help !
The only real camera shop in San Diego is George's Camera. There are plenty of "super" stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, Frys, etc. that might serve your needs for electronics. Seems the web is the best place to shop these days. But for buying lens in San Diego, George's Camera is the best gig in town. The prices are NOT discount though. At least for new camera's it isn't. But they do have a lot of different lens in the place, new and used. Here is a link to their website. You might even call them and see if they have what you are looking for.

I hope the weather is nice for you. It has been humid and hot like Florida here. NOT our normal weather in June that is for sure! I hope it is more San Diego weather-like for your stay.

I wasn't that impressed at first Gene. They changed a bit of the interface/menus and moved the things I use often off the standard layout. Once I customized it a bit, it was back to more pxp9 format that I liked. The tools are more accessible because I made them that way. ;-) Nice to have that option in a program. I like pspx a lot these days and do probably 99% of my processing with it. Although I've been using Picasa to view and crop and pspx for a bit of sharpening. I like what the fz30 produces in vivid mode and find I don't have to do anything besides a bit of crop to be satisfied with the image.

May you enjoy an abundance of home grown tomatoes before you know it! :-) And I want to see some shots of them when they do come in ok Gene?

I wasn't sure if this was a butterfly or a moth. I wish I would have had more time with it. It changed color depending on the position of the wings and the light hitting them. I hope our tropical weather goes back to the tropics! At least our humidity was down today and it wasn't quite so hot. Thanks again for the id on my butterfly Amanita.

Reminds me of the story my Nano (grandfather) used to tell me. He traveled to America as a stow away on a banana boat from Italy. All he had to eat was green bananas and they of course made him sick. It took over 40 years before he would touch a banana, ended up almost 100 years old and enjoying bananas.

I can just see you as a kid picking those green tomatoes cause you couldn't wait. It IS hard to wait. They seem to stay green a long time. These tomatos are the very first fruit off this years crop. Then all of a sudden they are all ripe at once. And I have to get canning them. Odds are good that it is over 90 degrees when this happens. Not when you want to be over a hot stove! But the rewards in the winter time make the sweat worth it.
