Referral code is deleted?

Have you noticed that your Smugmug referral code has been deleted from your signature? This is a photography website and Smugmug is a place for photographers. The referral helps both new sign-ons and the oldies. I used a complete stranger's referral when signing up; strangers have used mine since. This is a bummer.

I am sure the owners have a reason, probably a good one, but it is a bummer.

I quote,

"Promotional / discount codes - We do not allow the use of promotional codes or discount codes in messages, users signatures or plans. This is simply to avoid putting our members in a position of inadvertently advertising on behalf of a commercial company and falling foul of our commercial advertising rule. It's for the good of all members, so please don't do it."

If you don't want to abide by the rules thenm there are plenty of other forums that you can frequent.

Any suggestions of what is OK to write if the text below is not OK?

How about just including the link to your smugmug gallery, and leaving off the line about joining smugmug or getting a discount? Let your gallery speak for Smugmug. If others visit and like it, they will join. You can put your discount referral info on your Smugmug page.

If you try to get around this rule and continue to include your referral, you put all our SmugMug galleries at risk of being banned from DPReview. Read the following:

It may be harsh, but DPReview is a great service, and it's free. The least we can do is respect Phil's rules.

By the way, I don't think Phil has a problem with anyone recommending Smugmug as part of a discussion about image hosting sites... as long as it is on-topic and you don't include any discount codes.

RLR:

Who said anything about not following the rules? Why not read the post and respond constructively? The whole point of the thread is to alert folks and figure out what might be a nice compromise.

I am thinking my new signature complies with the rule, but maybe someone will tell me -- if not. Not sure if actually placing your email address in your signature complies because technically, that email address acts also a referral code.

I think one poster'ssuggestion to just use your amugmug address makes sense, and then put the referral code on your smugmug homepage. I will do that if my new signature is violative of the rule.
