I wish there was a forum that this would better fit into, but I'll post here since the camera I intend to buy is a Canon.

For those that have purchased (using the MSN reward program) from either Crutchfield or Ritz Camera, when have you received notification from MSN? The reason I ask is because the camera I want to order is out of stock and won't ship until after the 20th. However, if they process the claim when the order is placed instead of when it ships, I'd still be okay to order from them.

I don't mind waiting for my camera--I just want to make sure I still get in on the deal.

Michael

Michael - You should check directly with Ritz or Crutchfield to see if it can still qualify after the MSN time frame. I'm waiting for my Amex card before I buy an S110. It's going to be close. By the way, I spoke with Crutchfield this morning (S110's are out of stock), and they are unsure when they will receive additional units from Canon. Good luck.

I actually did call them. Crutchfield says they process the MSN side of things when the camera ships--it's due to be back in stock on the 19th, but that's cutting it close.

Ritz says they'll process it when you order, but I'd just like some confirmation to see if anybody else here has had good experiences with them.

I'm also waiting for my Amex Blue card. Maybe today.

Michael

I called Ritz, also. However, they told me that they do not charge your credit card or process the MSN rebate until the product ships and that this could not be done before December 20 for an out-of-stock item. Does anybody out there know any more about this?

Crutchfield says that they will give a merchandise certificate to anybody that does not get their MSN rebate due to their ordered product being out of stock. However, they charge for shipping and I would rather have a cash rebate than a merchandise certificate.

Any thoughts?

I had called them, and they told me I'd be alright as long as ordered by the 20th--i.e., that they process the MSN rebate paperwork when you place your order. Then they told you the opposite.

This is worrisome since the camera I want won't be in for 2 weeks or so.

That's the same thing they told me. If the camera isn't in stock or doesn't ship by the 20th, they'll give you a $100 merchandise credit. That's nice, but not quite what I'm looking for. I already have a CF card (and their prices are very high for such a thing), so I can't think of anything else to spend that $100 on. At least nothing that I would've bought anyway.

Is there any danger to placing two orders--one at each place, and then cancelling one after the other one ships? I just want to make sure I get in on the rebate.

Michael

I agree. I do not see anything that I would want to "buy" at Crutchfield. Has anybody else talked to Ritz about this? If they could guarantee that they would process the MSN stuff when the order was placed, I would go with them. Otherwise, I am not sure what I will do.

Even after the MSN rebate I work out that the price from both is about $800 (excluding shipping but before AMEX pricematch). Maybe it is better going with B&H that seems to have good reviews. There price is $750 + shipping (13 for fed ex saver). This leave you more room to AMEX pricematch to those after christmas deals and you don't have to deal with MSN.

Any thoughts?

Well, I've finally come to a conclusion. Thanks for everybody's input.

Ritz Camera is all or nothing (contrary to what they first told me). If the camera isn't in stock and shipping by 12/20, then no-go on the MSN holiday deal.

Crutchfield will give you $100 in credit at their store if you order through the MSN promotion if the camera is still backordered when the deal ends. Better than nothing, but I really wish I could get in on the MSN deal. $100 in Crutchfield credit isn't quite the same as a check for $100.

Anyway, I've decided to take my chances and order from Crutchfield since Ritz isn't expecting my camera until the beginning of the year. If it's not in by Thursday, I'll have to decide whether to keep the order or cancel it. I wish I had a crystal ball and could see what the price of this camera in the next 60 days was going to be (for pricematching purposes).

If anybody orders from Crutchfield.com, there's a way to get $25 off (covers shipping and takes about $11 off of your total) for new customers. In the "Special Messages" box at the end of the checkout process, you need to enter the customer number of whoever referred you to Crutchfield. You're free to put anybody's number in there, but mine is 20018563 in case nobody else has referred you there yet.

Hoping for my camera to come in stock this week...

Michael

Placed my order for a G2 on Friday. I called today to confirm stock status. I was told the camera was in stock and would ship Monday. I also received confirmation that my MSN rebate code was in the order correctly and should receive confirmation shortly after the order is shipped.

Hopefully I wasn't lied to.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your posts and all the other people who have contributed to this thead.

I too went down the same track as you .. I placed my order for an S30 at Crutchfield via MSN. I also agree with most other people who have posted on dpreview that I do not want to purchase anything else (i.e. other accessories) from their site as they WAY too expensive.

I am hoping that they get the Camera in stock otherwise I am cancelling my order.

At least after lurking on the message boards for soooo long I am now convinced the S30 is for me .. thanks to all that have posted .

Michael keep me informed as to your progress

Regards

I just spoke with one of their MSN Holiday Reward Reps through their live chat and asked them if I can get the reward even if the store is backed ordered until January. They said YES. Make sure you speak to a Holiday Rewards Rep to confirm.

I just did, too. They said I can get in on the rebate if the mechant charges my credit card by midnight on 12/20. Crutchfield (and Ritz Camera, for that matter) refuse to charge my card before the item ships. So it looks like I'm still out of luck unless the camera magically comes back in stock (and ships) by Thursday. Thanks, anyway.

I've had good experiences with Ritz itself but haven't had much luck with MSN and Ritz. I ordered my first camera (Nikon 885) and thought I followed the link from MSN and apparently, I didn't.

I then ordered an S30 from Ritz THROUGH MSN and the code that says I came through MSN was there. That was on 12/10 and I haven't gotten a notification yet. I talked to MSN today and they said talk to Ritz. I talked to Ritz and they said the MSN co-ordinator was overseeing all of this because of 'issues like these'. She asked if I had my passport id # which I did not (it's some number with a format like xxxxx:-xxxxxxxxxx). I said in 3 orders (1 from Photoalley, two from Ritz) I had never seen anything like this.

She called me back to tell me she had run into the coordinator and asked and she was doing an upload to MSN and to check back tomorrow.

In the meantime, I had ordered another 885 to qualify for the rebate. I'm hoping they use the S30 to qualify because the 885's: they are going back!!! I love the S30!
I'm also waiting for my Amex Blue card. Maybe today.
Did you apply online? When I did, they gave me a temporary number to use until I got my card.

No! I applied on the phone because I figured it would speed things along. I asked if it were possible to use before I actually had the cards in my hands, and they said no. Why do things like this always happen to me?
