SD500 Picture

I sold my SD500 to purchase the SD700 IS, but will purchase it again on Ebay, it really is a great camera, pictures really come out sharp and bright because of the great flash. This is not to say the SD700 pictures are bad or inferior; the SD700 is very capabable of producing very high quality pictures too. The macro feature on the SD700 definitely has the edge, thanks to the IS. But the SD500 is still very capable of taking superb macro shots too, you just don't have the luxury of the IS backing you up in certain challenging situations (i.e. movement of flower due to wind).

Enjoy your SD500.

The SD500 is a great little camera - nice pic for your first go around with the camera. I hope you take many more and enjoy them all.

I just returned from a long weekend in Martha's Vineyard and here are a few pics I took with my SD500 - I really like this camera - Good luck with yours!

Enjoy!

Did you post-process any of the pictures, especially the indoor picture? SD500 is, indeed, still a superb camera. Just think if Canon came out with the successor to the SD500/550 with IS and perhaps, extra zoom too.

These are all straight from the camera - no post-processing at all. The indoor picture by the way is without a flash and holding the camera very still.

IS would be really cool with this sensor, so too would the extra zoom. One more thing I would like to see is a closer macro, like the one the SD700 has. As you know from some of my other posts, I like the SD500 a lot - the improvements you mentioned above would really make it tops.

Your posts reinforce my recent decision. I had bought a Nikon D50 a month ago. I've been using an SD200 (my 3rd Elph) and getting some nice pics for the size, so decided I wanted to get more serious. My daughter took the Elph and I started hauling around the D50, experimenting with settings, exploring RAW converters, pricing lenses. It didn't take long to realize I wasn't having as much fun. On a kayak trip, I kept having to haul the thing out of the dry bag and go through all the gyrations only to get home and discover I had to post process everything to get nice pictures. So, I sold it last week and, based on my scouring this forum, chose the SD500 over the 550, 600, 630, and 700IS (and got it for $256 at Buydig). For my active lifestyle, nothing beats having a decent camera in my pocket!
