Minolta S304, P.I.M. and the Epson 785EPX

Hello all,

Does anybody here have experience with the Minolta S304 (or any other Minolta digicam with PIM) and direct printing with the Epson 785EPX printer (or any other Minolta digicam and printer with the direct print feature)?

I am looking to purchase both of these items and would like to know if I can get good 8x10's without running the S304 images through Minolta's or any other picture software first.

I bought my S304 3 month ago, and my EPSON 785EPX a month ago (and sent the Epson 100$ rebate coupon!).

Upon arrival the first thing I did was take a picture in 2048x1536 (Jpeg, Fine), then took the CF from the Minolta, plugged in into the Epson and finally printed at 8x10 using the sample sheet that comes with the Epson.

Details are excellent, no jagged at all!

The picture was taken with mixed lights and in a rush, so colors weren't very good but the ones to blame is the camera, not the printer. After uploading the picture to my PC (with color calibrated monitor), I got same results, so colors using PIM are faithful.

I think mix light is always a problem with any camera unless to calibrate it for that light.

So conclusion: PIM seems to work.

I'm pretty happy with my S304. It has its advantage and disadvantages. But now it's an excellent deal, you can get the S304 + 785EPX Epson printer for less than 500$! (after rebate).

I only wish Minolta upgrade it Firmware somehow. It sometimes (10-20%) misses the focus even in sunny days with high contrast images. In low light is worst but at least it tells you that it can't focus.
