Time after time I see posts from people asking how to post pictures, or what is the best place to post them.

In the past I used to recomend sony's imagestation until someone pointed out some terrible wording in the user agreement that gave them unlimited free rights to all your pictures.

Frikkin Sony...

So like most I checked out Smugmug, pBase, and flickr.

Pbase and smugmug are about equal, though I like SMugmug a lot better due to it's unlimited storage space.

Flickr is good if you want to only upload 20mb a month for the free account.

But then I saw someone who posted there pictures at a site I had never heard of. So I checked it out.

Lo and behold, it is everything and more.
Unlimited storage, public and private folders, sharing, and many more things.

I thought, the front page was a little odd, but checked out some user pages. They were great. Plain and simple, adjustable in folder and thumbnail count.

What really blew me away, was the price. Can you believe that you get all the things my paid smugmug account gives me, and I get it for free?

YES !! I SAID FREE !!!!

So, while I have no affiliation to this site, I recomend it for those who want a great place, without a great cost. More money to spend on equipment I say.

You can check it out for yourself. http://www.iciclelanding.com

Now since I learned about it here. I am sure some of you already know about it. For others, you be the judge.

If this helps one person today, I met my goal.

Enjoy your day.

I can say from my experience, it has been 100% reliable. More than I can say for pBase or Smugmug.

But again, it's for you to decide. Makes no difference to me what you use. I use both SmugMug and Iciclelanding.

Cool... always nice to know about another good hosting site. It looks like it is just a hosting site though... I don't see any information about ordering prints. Not that it's a bad thing. Just a feature that might keep some people away. Of course Flickr started out just hosting as well, and later added the ability to order prints.

I use both PBase and Smugmug. Mostly Smugmug these days. I've also used Flickr, Clubphoto, Ofoto, etc.

I prefer Smugmug because it supports keyword tagging, allows you to order prints, and allows you to customize the look and security settings of each album... so you can allow people to purchase or download some photos but not others. I also like the fact that you can order prints from Smugmug in "True Color" where they do not attempt to do any color correction. They just warn you that the JPEGs should be in sRGB and that your monitor better be calibrated properly.

Smugmug's performance seems acceptable in my experience. It isn't the fastest photo sharing site I've used, but it seems more responsive and reliable than many others I've tried. The big problem with Smugmug? It isn't free! With so many free photo sharing sites out there, I'm afraid they will have trouble competing with fast growing sites like Flickr if they don't offer at least some kind of free account.

True.. True...

You cannot order pictures from it, but as I said, it is just a place to park and share your pictures.

Until SmugMug allows any level account to set there own pricing, I won't use the print services for my stuff.
