ENGAGEMENT PICS - An experiment

Interesting!

Stephanie,

I like them. If you get more friends asking you for such portraits, I would invest in a book on posing. It should help you get quite more interesting poses, instead of the more obvious ones.

Kind Regards,
Przemek
Ok took these for some friends who were on a budget. No promises
were made, no fee :) I would also like to remind everyone I am not
in the business of taking portraits so these may be pretty flawed.
I was pretty proud of them and thought I would share anyway...what
do you think?

ok these are way flawed but since they were friends and not looking
for perfection I included them, might make cute snapshots...

Exposure on the first… #2 & 4 are too stiff for my taste.

Experienced portrait and event photographers know how to loosen people up or make them look natural. I wish I could do that. I went to a seminar on the subject and watched a top faction photographer work non models and make them look great. What I learned from the seminar and watching him is that others can do that :-} I’ll stick to wildlife, landscape and street photography.

Your others are very nice and I’m shore your friends will be happy to have all of them as it’s the memories there after.

Stephanie,

The pics look great. I am sure your friends are thankful you were gracious enough to take thier pics. With the wonderful sports pics you take you should have them slide into home for a pic!

Not rude at all...these were shot at Garden of the Gods during the beginning of a thunderstorm...if you could see what they started out as you may understand how a person might overexpose lol. My external flash is from like the 1960s so sometimes I rely to much on my pp in ps to correct things. Thank you for the comments

You know my flash setup is really where my flaws lie in portraiture. I have an old SB-4 unit that has been around probably longer than I have been alive. It is a manual flash and I have zero idea how to use it. I shot some of these using the onboard flash...really they all were bad until I changed the levels and white balance in ps. I am thinking however that my monitor is a bit off as I have been getting that they are too red/pink.

I thought about the soft look too...a little more understanding to my oof exposures however the couple is putting the photo behind some velum? (see through paper on the invitations...) I worried that being a tad soft on top of being under another piece of opaque paper may cause them to be tooooo soft.

Thankyou for your comments and I like your shot.

Thanks for the one by one critique Randy :) You know I am not one who posts just to show off...I really do appreciate the feedback. Being a non sports subject I just felt totally out of my element with these. I woudl like to be able to take a decent portrait someday :) I will look into your suggestions.

Nice shots steph. I'm not a great couples photographer, but did my best with my sister-in-law and her husband to be (which actually ended up being a non-wedding!)...

Also, I have always wanted to go the Garden of the Gods... I live in Texas - so perhaps I'll make a drive and check it out (plus my dad would love to check it out too, since he's into Geology).

i like them . I like the fact that the couple was having fun and therefore relaxed. It's easier when they are your friends and feel confortable with you. so with that said. Charge them a fee. lol
