USB cable for C-4040

hello,

i just bought a new C-4040, but unfortuately, my USB cable does not fit into my camera at all!!

my cable is black, and have a total wrong socket!

i m just wondering, are there many types of USB cables?? can someone with a C-4040 to post a pic of their cable?

I too just got a 4040. However, my USB cable fits the camera just fine. You are referring to the cable that came with the camera are you not?

The cable that came with my 4040 is Not Black. It is the standard grey color of most computer wiring. I will post a photo of my cable for you later if no one else has (I need to do other stuff first).

thanks for your reply.

yes, i m referring to the cable that came supplied, which is black for me.... the plug that goes into the camera is flat at the bottom and sort of rounded at the top... whereas the socket at my camera is flat at the top.....

will be going back to the dealer to change two days later.... i just want to be sure they don't give me other cables, coz i want an original olympus one! :)

I would dare bet that all of Olympus's USB cables are the same. They are grey and have a USB A-type connector at one end and a mini-B type on the other. There are two cylindrical objects, one next to each connector.

thanks for you reply.

judging from the socket at the camera, i would suspect that the cable connector should be nowhere near cyclindrical!

i hope someone could be kind enough to post a picture for me. thanks..

No, the connector is not cylindrical. But there is a cylindrical piece next to the connector. It contains ferrite to reduce radio interference.

I just got a D-40 for a friend, and the cable is different. You, my friend, have a D-40 cable. Look at the detail pictures of the D-40 review and I'm sure you'll agree.

Someone must have been comparing cameras at the store and the cables got swapped.

I'm sure the salesperson at the store can help you. He'll also soon be hearing from a frustrated D-40 owner.

As long as the cable they give you fits, I wouldnt worry about the "brand". Olympus just uses a standard generic USB cable (and they didnt even have their logo put on it), so if they cant find you the one that came with your camera, but offer you a free cable that will work, it will work just as well (possibly even better) then the olympus supplied cable.
