Aperture with Powerbook , hows the performance?

I am an amatuer but like the look of Aperture.

I have a Powerbook G4 1.67 GHZ with 1.5 gb of ram. Will aperture run ok on my machine?

Anyone have any experience of it?

I currently use bridge / photoshop but like the look of aperture and then edit in CS2.

I used Aperture on the same configuration and it was quite useable. It would stall just a little bit with sharpening, but I found the speed, in general, to be quite satisfactory. I've got a MacBook Pro now, and its awesome.....

Somehow, some crud got into the modem port of my PB and it shorted out the motherboard, or I'd still have it....

Thats great news. I must say i am really seriously considering a macbook pro. I just wanted a few bugs etc sorted out before i bought one.

I have to carry both a windows and mac laptop with me on my travels and would love one machine.

Is the difference in speed really noticeable and did you max out the macbook pro?
 
Before I bought my MacBook Pro I used Aperture on my 17" Powerbook 1.33 mhz. My powerbook only had 1gb of ram and I found that Aperture was quite usable. It wasn't fast but like I said it was very usable. But.....it does FLY on my new macbook pro.

I think i will give it a go on my existing powerbook. Less than a year old and i dont really want to change yet. But on the other hand...
 
I've found it quite painful on PB 1.5Ghz with 1.5GB RAM.... that is with RAW files from a Canon Pro 1. Sometimes it can take a long while the finish "Loading..." the RAW files.

Of course, a lot of my testing was done on long-haul international flights running on battery power with maximum power conservation (no power sockets in econ class :( ) so performance was probably a lot worse than it could have been...

I've got 1G memory right now and I'd say its faster than on the PB. I've got another 1G on the way from Crucial. I think that'll make all the difference in the world. If you're going to get a PowerMac Pro, get the one with 256MG RAM on the video card....

Bugs? What bugs? I'm pretty happy with mine....
