Sony DSLR specs look great.

SAL 50 mm F2.8 Macro = $479 vs Canon 50mm F2.5 macro = $239
SAL 100 mm F2.8 Macro = $679 vs Canon 100 F2.8 macro = $429
SAL 70-200 mm F2.8 G = $2399 vs Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS = $1,649
SAL 1.4X TC = $599 vs Canon 1.4X TC = $284

It's cheaper to buy Canon 30D, IS lenses, and a dust blower.

I guess if the longest lens you have in your telephoto line-up is 300mm, you can charge quite a bit more for a 2x TC...

Agreed. The rumored 370D will have a 2.5" LCD, picture style and probably 1/3 ISO added to it. It will be priced about the same as the current 350D price(just like 30D, it will have a lower initial price). Canon might also release a 3000D(stripped down 370D). Basically the key point to success here is "low price". They will make money out of lens sales.

Kind regards from a DP beginner(30D + S60).

These forums and google are full of information on the kit lenses, etc. It's a $100 lens so they don't have to sell it with just a body cap to people who'd not be able to figure out a lens choice. Like the cheapest Canon "kit" lenses.

If Sony does what KM did, the Kit lens ships in a lens box and the Body in its box and a full set of caps, just like a real camera.

Also if Sony just rebranded the KM kit, its pretty good for kit lens.. IT has been standing up well in tests on the KM board with the some of the $300 replacements from Sigma etc.

If Canon or Nikon take the attitude some of the "fan boys" are taking.. they will not know what hit them. Sony imaging has been playing hardball and winning against Canon and JVC in the PRO (read $40,000 to $100,000+) video camera market for years.

This is not the Sony music division with all its royal screw-ups.

the good news is I think Both Canon and Nikon are up to the challenge what what doesn't kill them will make them better too.

Yeah, that's fair, comparing MSRP prices to street prices. The MSRP of the Canon 70-200 2.8 IS USM is $2899, by the way.

If you wan't what the pros use don't forget to get that rangefinder. My guess is that most of the photohournalistic prints bought are leica-made...

The Sony seems to be a formidable consumer camera. There is no other entry-level DSLR that comes close IMHO. I mean what more could you possibly wan't from an amateur camera?

In the semi-pro and pro DSLR market this camera doesn't stand a chance though...

looks really great!
Image stabilazation with 10MP sensor and so on...
Looks like it may be a very good camera!

Not sure I need it because my 350D is already what I need but for sure if I had to buy a camera now the Sony would be on the top of my short list!

Is there some sample image available?

Sony doesn't allow publishing the samples just yet, but this website says that the low ISO images are "stunning", and the high ISO ones are noisy with too much noise cleaning.

You are using Sony list prices against Canon discount prices.

The Canon 50mm f2.5 macro lists for $400.
The Canon 100mm f2.8 lists for $700
The Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L (no IS) lists for $3,100.
The Canon 1.4x TC lists for $438.

There's no reason not to expect that discount places like
B&H will not discount the Sony equipment as much as they
do the Canon equipment.
