F30 limited supply

Thanks, Linda. A very interesting set of features at a quite reasonable price. I think if they added VGA video (it's 2006, what were they thinking?), worked on IQ a bit and threw some marketing muscle into the U.S. market (creating a dealer network, advertising, etc.), the R4 (or would it be R5?) could be a real player.
Hmm- want mine???

Seriously, it is a good camera for the price given the features and
28-200

I have the LX1 and prefer it.

If someone wants a 28-2800, pocketble with great macro, it works
very well. I thinkthe LX1 images and overall build are a lot better.
I have it 2 days and I will either return it, or happily sell it
for a good price.

It is what it is. For someone who does not want to spend on the
LX1--it is a nice pocelkt cam--especially if you hike and want zoom.

Lots of controls-tho no raw. Smal, light. I got the TZ1 yesterday
for hubby. it is doing very welll and I think it is a more true P &
S for him.

The R4 is a good $300 camera with WA, zoom, macro and controls.

I wouldn't rank it with the LX1- but that wad easily $150 more and
the R4 can go to about 400 ISO--in other words lest chroma noice.
Yesterday I found its motors a bit noisy but it is much quieter
today for some reason. I even have a Caplie case for it. US
warranty.

Worst case, I will keep it..

No affents but, for me, its too hard to look at flicker photos, its too slow to move and never big enough for me.

I am glad you posted though, I would be very curious to hear your thoughts about comparing the sensors in these two cameras with regards to noise, natual light photos with higher ISO shots (400 and up)....all with respects to image quality, without a flash. I am not particularly interested in features, buttons and build, except as the directly relate to the final image quality and after processing. If you dont process your photos let us know that too!

You have to leave focal length out of it, as there is no comparison, the R4 has an over the top awesome focal length for a compact.

I look forward to your thoughts!

Here is the situation:

I use the f11 for all indoor shooting, and the R4 for everything else. Although the F11 can produce excellent shots in daylight, it is more difficult to use, produces more misses, and does not have the awsome specs of the R4.

I never use the R4 at hight IOS, and when I have (out of necessity) it is not anywhere as good as the F11.

I set both cameras to 'vivid' and post process most shots (although a number of the shots posted on flickr are not post processed because of testing purposes).

BTW, I am not a pixel peeper, and only occasionally print (at 4x6 on the Oly P-11). I have larger cameras that I also really like (Canon S1 IS, S-60, and the Oly C-7000), but I used the F11 and and R4 because they are portable and produce pleasing results.

PS I enjoy the discussion on the Fuji forum, because of the technical experitise of so many of the posters.

Your photos are nice...i am undecided about returning or just selling off the R4--better than a restock that someone gets a deal.
i have the C7000 and love it!

What do you like most about the R4? Least?

I have the LX1 so that is one of my reference points..

Linda

I think I replied somewhere but
LX1 for overal camera quality and phot quality. Raw if you need it.
Noise at over 200 or blue chroma at times-but overall love the camera.
Easy and great to use.

F11 and soon to be F30 and have the e900- in a class of its own for ambient lighting bar none. However, less controls (other than the e900).
the e900 trades some ISO for more pixels, WA and conrols..)

I find the Fuji's have a special beauty but need some sharpening and processing.

R4- I have seen some beautiful phots. I think one trades off with the LX1 n

build
raw
pixels
layout and controls
better metering and WB
16:9

And in return gets
smaller
lighter
pocketable
better macro
better ISO performance
little or no blue chroma noise
fewer pixels
poorer metering and odd WB.

Outdoors they even out a bit more but the LX1 is better.

I am likely to return my R4 if I don't sell it. At $325 it is a value for the range and some of the good points. I think more practice with it would get the settings better.

Sorry-typo- that was 28-200.

It may not be fair to compare to an originally $600 camera that is also 8 mp.

At what the R4 is selling for, it does deliver a lotfor the price.
Like I said,I paid about $460 I think for my LX1.

And,if I don't keep the R4 or sell it privately, I will just return it for the restock fee. For the money, it actually is a very interesting proposition- which is why I ordered it for the hubby.

Now he wants a viewfinder as well???!!

Linda

still have the R4? If so, what color did you order? I'm thinking of getting one myelf.

Thanks!
