Does anyone actually use the Oly Master software?

Does any one actually bother with the 'Olympus Master' software? As with 'Nikon View' which came with my Coolpix, I can't see the point of it - I just pull out the CF card, plug it into an adaptor and view, delete or copy the images with the XP file viewer.

I love it for my RAW conversions. A bit slow, but great results without much editing. Then I throw them into CS2 if I want to do anything further.

I do too ... Only to download pictures to my PC ...

I don't do much PP, I guess I am an old "slides" guy...

That may change in the near future, I'm learning GIMP, it's fantastic !!!

I use it too. I usually only work on a few handful of shots at a time so I really don't see the need to get something else at this time. Yeah it may be a little slow, but it depends on what your needs are.

Not really, I might use it to update the E-500 firmware. I don't like the junk on the right side. I use RSP for raw development, I like the results better and the interface is great.

Otherwise I use RSP for RAW processing, PS7 for PP, and FastStone Viewer for slideshow/screen viewing.

I actually went for the upgrade option (seemed cheap enough), but to be honest, you get very little in return. Olympus Master is (a) slow and (b) has limited RAW development/editing capability. But if you're happy to "save as" TIFF and then perform the rest of your editing somwhere else, then it'll do the job.

I will almost certianly purchase RawShooter Premium in the not too distant future.

Master seems to produce less yellow noise with E-300 frames than any of the options I've found. If I have shots with lots of yellow noise I'll develop them with Master and then put them through Neatimage or Noiseware.

.. in camediamaster (and oly master which is a flavour thereof) there's a 'barrel distortion' tool. Set it (or leave it at) 'Auto' and it undistorts your images for you.

I suppose the version in Studio is the same?

It's also pretty good at putting fisheye effects into images (it's the best I have on my computer thaqt inc. PS7)

That's why I retain camediamaster on my comp just for this BD tool. But it makes the workflow 'a son of a xxxxx'. It's another program, in range of photo editting programs, that I keep on the comp as they do something unique or something far better, and easier, than all the usual suspect editing programs like PS, PSP, etc. For instance, a old cheaper program called Ulead PhotoExpress V2 has a very easy to use setting for printing posters, tiling, and all sorts of stuff like that... I just wish they was all under the same program as then I wouldn't have to be opening/saving tiffs all the time. :-(]

I do. I started using it when i had c-70. I like it for its calendar view which helps to keep pictures in order. It is slow but raws come out nicely. One thing thing which bothers me is that is compresses jpegs too much even at the high quality setting. I don't use it for any editing except distortion correction. Everything else I do with ps cs

I even paid for the upgrade. Not much of a difference, but I did it. I use it for my RAW conversion. I have CS2 and have used it too, but like how my RAW conversions look out of oly master more than when I use CS2.

upgrade a waste of money, purchased a new computer, 250 HD 1gig ram and olympus master says I neeed "plus" to burn backup CD's. Paid for upgrade, waste of time. Plus uses Image mixer to burn with but it would not recognise my burner. Many hours searching for software patch but to no avail. No-one wants to take responsability, Dell, Olympus, ImageMixer, Phillips(CD/DVD burner supplied with computer)
Is there anyone out there (Pink Floyd) having similar trouble.

In "Master's" first incarnation it was called Camedia Master. Most users referred to it as "Comedia" master as it was, pretty much, a joke.

While I have installed it on my computer, it's used exclusively for updates for my E-300 (and I seriously doubt that Oly will do any more) and nothing else.

I also have Viewer installed for my E-1 updates and will never use it for anything else.

Aside from the update feature, there's a barrage of software out there, some free, some not so free, that simply run circles around the Master/Viewer solutions. I ran the Studio trial to its limit and disliked it immensly.

Hopefully, the software developers for Master, Viewer and Studio have absolutely nothing to do with the new iteration of the E-series pro camera. If they do, we're all in a bit of trouble.
