I some of you, I just got my 707. I'm trying everything out, but the flash never pops up. I tried all the hints in the handbook, but it seems no to work. The laser works. Any suggestion?
Thanks
Silver

Have you really tried everything in the manual, including forcing the flash? If so, then your camera probably needs a trip back to Sony.

No, I have a flash with no circle (= force flash?), and "eye" (no red eyes) and an icon which should be the one of the laser. Sometimes, switching the flash modes the flash/chg led lights up quickly and then turns off.

I hope to find a solution, as the camera come from the USA and I'm in Switzerland and I suppose Sony will not be happy to help me...
You dont have a circle around the flash symbol? (force flash never)

The pop-up flash is released by a solenoid driven latch under the right side of the flash. If I hold the flash down and press the shutter button part way, I can hear a distinct "click" as the latch is moved backwards. When I remove my fingers, the flash pops up. (My flash works perfectly, and I was only trying this to hear internal sounds for diagnosis.)

Try pressing down on the flash and see if you can hear the solenoid trying to actuate the latch. If you can't hear anything, there is an electrical problem. If you hear the click and the flash pops up after removing your fingers, it sounds like excess friction somewhere that the solenoid can't overcome.

Either way, it sounds like a real hardware problem that Sony will have to fix. Hope this helps.

try to reset the camera -

if you open the batery door you will see near the memory stick a small punch button - with somthin small push the button to reset the camera .

after that try to take picture in auto mode in dark room - tell me what you get

I reset the camera, but nothing changed (after entering the date).

I darkness I see the laser and all the icons I listed before and the small hand in the middle (low light). The flash does not pop up and I don't hear any solenoid clicking (what's a solenoid?).
I tried with night framing, same result, black picture, but infrared works.

Really bad luck. It's a hardware problem, my 707 got it too. I'm from Portugal, and mine came from German, but Sony here helped me. It took 6 days, really fast. So, just go to Sony.

Good Luck!

The camera is now under repair at the Sony Headquarters (+ Service Center) here in Switzerland, I went there personally, it's near.

They didn't say a word about the fact that the camera comes from USA and they know about BFS, but they said it affects only USA-Models, which I said is not true (according to this forum).
Let's see how long it takes...

Sony called me back on friday: the camera cannot be repaired, the cost would exceed the price of a new one and they will not replace it for free because they say the camera was dropped or something similar (not covered by the guarantee). I'm absolutely sure this didn't happen, the camera come out of the box in this condition, but they don't care and I can't prove it, so I have to buy a new one (with 20% discount on the swiss list price).

Very bad luck! It will be a very expensive camera.

Lesson learned: check extensively your camera at the store and carry it very carefully. Mine looked OK at first sight.

Hi Silver

I think that the only solution for you is to use Sony HVL-F1000 external flash.
