300 AF-S f4.0 in the Zoo

Hi Rakesh

What is your experience with TC14 and TC20 and how would you charactarize the differences between the two with the 300?

By the way I took a brief look at your web-sites, and I will have to revisit them later. There are some great shots.

Me too. The shots are nice, just there're some gaps in classification. Spiders are not insects, the same as lizzards are not mammals :-) No offense, just... you know, the eye can't pass by... I would suggest to make some separate pages for them. If there're not so many to fill them, perhaps they can be renamed to something more abstract, i.e., arthropods, animals etc.

Cloudy days are the best for color photography.

Thanks.

Yes, I also prefer to shoot on a rainy day. I think the colors are more "saturated".

Thanx Jens,

With the 1.4X which even Nikon recommends using with this lens, I cannot make out any difference between sharpness of the shots taken with either setup. The 300 f/4 is amazingly sharp and if you have enough light , it works amazingly well with a 2X TC too. The only issue is of support. I use the Manfrotto 393 gimball type head and manage to get supersharp pics, even though I know that the head is an overkill for the lens.

Always welcome.

Brilliant natural colors Jens! One and three my favorites.

I picked up this underrated 300 f4 afs several weeks ago and found it difficult to remove off my D50 since then. Here's a few jpegs

Best regards,
Pierre

Outstanding photos - very sharp and well-composed.
My favorite is the first one of the lion cub perched on a branch

If you are still inquiring about how this lens performs with a 1.4x TC, this photo (and most of the others in the same gallery) were taken with the 300 F4 + 1.4x TC...

Hi Pierre

Thanks you.

I have been watching your shots for the last couple of weeks, and you certaintly helped making the decision for this lens. I will buy it tomorrow unless Nikon announced something new and interesting in the same range.

I agree with you. Once this lens is mounted it is a pleasure to use. But I guess it is so with all new lenses.

Hi Thomas

Thanks.

I can wholehearted recommend this lens, and I'm sure once you get it, you will find your way of shooting with it.

Hi Tom

Thanks.

I'm still interested in the TC14E II and judging from your shots, it will match the 300 AF-S f4.0 very well.

I enjoyed your shots in your gallery very much.
