I highly recommend using a Peak lupe for taking macro shots with the S10. This is what I managed to take by just holding the lupe in front of the lens (the lupe perfectly fits around the lens so you just have to press lightly to hold the camera and lens with one hand and you can adjust the distance from the lens on the lupe)

I can't find the product number of the Peak lens on the internet, mine is a type 1983, Peak Scale Lupe 10x, has precision-constructed achromatic lenses (coated 4 elements, 2 groups).
I've found a nice overview of Peak (and also other lupes like Kenko!) here:
http://dotlinecorp.com/dl_cat_M/-M02_peakL.html

I simply removed the scale so the lens is hollow (to put the camera lens in) and I saw there's a 37 mm thread on the lens also (haven't ordered the lens adapter at http://www.ckcpower.com ... suppose I must do it sometime...)

I know the depth of field is not very large... but that's what I like most on macro pictures... Shooting distance is about 2 cm (0,75 inch), same as the 950...

I'll post more pictures later, these are only my first attempts...

The price is about 100$ and I think you can find it in regular photo stores, it's used by professionals for examining slides...

I also think that if you mount it on the 37 mm thread, you will have vignetting at 2x zoom... I really put the Canon lens inside the lupe, almost against the glass of the lupe...

Your pictures are stunning! Please give us more details on how you did this. For example, what camera settings did you use? Did you use a tripod? How far from the subject was the lens/lupe? Do you move the lupe to focus? I look forward to seeing more of your pictures

Camera settings: manual mode, auto W/B, macro mode, no tripod use, the subject is always about 2 cm from the lupe and I had the lupe as close as possible to the canon lens. I let the s10 do the focus work.

I always pre-focused and followed the bee while holding the shutter half-pressed. Then it's just a matter of time to take at the right moment, when the bee is not moving... (you have to be patient :))

I found the Peak loupe (10x Peak scale loupe model 1983) listed at:
http://www.bhvideo.com/photo/loupes/allpurpose.html . Price is US$59.95.
Peak Scale Loupe 10x (PK1983)

A high power precision achromatic all-purpose 10x magnifier (2G4E) with focusing diopter and printed removable scale.
Item # PE1983....59.95

That's the same as mine :)
I wonder what the higher magnifier lupes like the 2016 (15x) wil produce...

Hello Wim,

I congratulate you on your resourcefulness and the quality of your photos. I also appreciated seeing something new and different on this (or any other forum). The change from "which camera takes the best pics?" was most welcome.

I am a novice. I have been trying to take macro pics of very small fishing
flies. I am interested in the Peak Lupe. Where can I find one? (on the web
if possible, as I live in a rural area. Thanks for any help.
