Does any one know if the IS registers on the EXIF? I'm having some problems that indicates that the IS on my lens may be intermittent. I'm trying to see if I can prove it works everytime. Thanks

Do you mean misfocus possibly? Or could it be front focus? I see that occasionally with my 24-104> > but not enough to warrant sending it back. 90% clean shots. [unless there is elements like wind or camera/target movement, or too slow shutterspeed.]

a few too many lenses...

Funny....I have suspected the same of my new 24-105L but I haven't come up with any reliable method to check the IS yet. My reason for questioning the IS is that I am getting better low light shots from both my 24-70L (non IS obviously) and an older EF28-105 (non IS) than the 24-105L. So much for the extra 3 stops the IS allegedly provides. :)

I have seen other posts here ( http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1032&message=18410530 ) with amazing hand held results that I cannot manage to duplicate with this lens without tripod support. The IS on my 100-400L is astounding and I had somehow hoped the same from this lens.

Please let me know if you find a way to sort this...short of sending it to Canon.
Thx!

why not send it to canon? if what you say is true there is a problem. even if what you suspect is not true you still have a problem.

i was unsure about softness @ f4 anf @ 105mm so i sent my in and it came back improved in about 10 days.

The problem appears to be that the focus indicator was slightly off target (I only use the centre point) and the camera was focussing on the background. In my defence it was a very dark cloister in Durham Cathedral and the focus indicator was only just off target. I used the Canon EOS viewer utility to proove this, it will show the focus points used and which one was used for the focus. The other images had too low a shutter speed even for the IS system.

Thanks for your interest,

Vincent
