I have decided to purchase the Canon G2. (Yeah!)

Now, the question is where should I purchase it from.

Based on my research and the comments on this forum, I have narrow down to 3 places.

B&H (which I have heard great things about), CameraWorld (which I have purchased from), and MPSuperstore (which seems to have better price than both B&H and CameraWorld).

So which one deserve my business? Any suggestions? (In specific, I would love to get some feedback on MPSuperstore.)

Good price is certainly important to me but I also want to purchase from a reputable establishment that have good customer service and quick response.

Thanks in advance!--vj

I Buy Digital is also extremely highly rated... from what I've seen, and they have a good price point too (6.4 of 7 stars on reseller ratings and 4.5 of 5 on pricegrabber, priced near $720)

stay away from mp no good best place b&h by far you can check out the ratings on the merchants http://www.resellerratings.com you can get the g2 for $729 and a 420ex flash usa make sure for $184 at b&h.i was there yesterday so professionial...

I haven't seen much on this site about 17th St. Photo, but I highly recommend them. Their price on the G2 is a little higher ($759 when I got it last week), but they are very professional and trustworthy. They have excellent ratings on every site that I checked, and, more importantly, they have a perfectly clean record with the NY BBB. That is unheard of, even for reputable dealers. I saw it with my own eyes though--no complaints with the BBB. 17th St. is also a BBB member.

Finally, the price for me ended up being as low as most of the super-cheap dealers. I may be crazy, but I like the peace of mind that comes with an extended warranty when I buy something this expensive. Many of the mega discount stores will force a 3 year in-house warranty for $249 on you as a de facto condition for actually selling you the camera at the advertised price. At 17th St., I got a 5 year warranty through Mack Camera, which I understand to be one of the most reputable 3d party warrantors, for $69.

The camera was shipped the same day I ordered it. They sent me a tracking number by email immediately. The camera was well packed and delivered promptly. And, I should also mention that they do not have a restocking fee for returns within 14 days. How about that? An honest to goodness satisfaction guarantee.

I sound like a shill for 17th St. Photo, but I'm just a satisfied customer who was happy to get what he paid for at a fair price. Check them out before you decide.

I bought a S30 from MP several days ago. No problem. They did try to sell some accessories. That's OK. I declined and they sent the camera out the next day. They also had the best price at the time.

Of the 3, I would go with B&H - solid business, good reputation, good logistics. CameraWorld service went downhill in the last year and is often not competitive on price. MPSuperstore tends to be aggressive on price but you need to be vigilant against poor execution.

How about your cake and eat it too.

I purchased a G2 last week from B&H. I paid $729.95. I put it on my American Express Card. I than found it at Regency Camera for $569.95. I submitted a Best Value Comp to AE which than reimbursed me the difference of $160. So the final price was $569.95.

The whole idea where was to do business with a company that has a very good trasck record (B&H), yet pay only the best price for the camera.

Which one deserves your business? Probably B&H. But if you really are going for price only buy from MPSuperstore through the msn eshops deal. $699 -100 from msn eshop rebate, -110 for price match with Regency from AMEX Blue. You get the Camera for 489 + 45 "shipping", $534 out the door. Better yet hopefully Photoalley or 800.com have a sale with the camera @ 799 plus a giftcheck. Do a similar msn rebate / price match with them.

A little tip for those of you ordering from places that push accessories: Tell them you already have a G1 that you are selling to a friend. You already have extra batteries, lenses, case, a couple 256 MB flashcards etc. You don't buy warranties, and yours is doubled by Amex Blue. Don't allow yourself to be put on the defensive.

Thanks for everyone's input so far. I am thinking of using the AMEX price match. Does anyone know if it will work with B&H? Does B&H has an an established lowest-price guarantee? Also, does anyone know for sure that AMEX will honor Regency's $589 advertised price?

Thanks in advance!
