Probably about a month ago I received my E100RS from NY Camera in Germany. It was the first batch of US NTSC cameras. It had a stuck pixel cluster on the CCD in addition several on the LCD and EVF. It had a US warranty card, came in a box that on Olympus America's website said that it was a valid US model, and Graham from NY Camera told me that it would be able to be fixed in the US. I decided to send it in about 2 and a half weeks ago and it came back yesterday. The CCD is fixed but there is still a stuck pixel on the EVF. I'm very disappointed!
ARE YOU KIDDING! I am because I'm estatic. Let me explain. Yes there was a stuck pixel but in the short time I used the camera, I noticed that the low light focus was not as good as my UZI. Keep in mind that this was before all the threads on this forum that talk about the focus problem. So I just thought that it was a problem with my camera. Then, in using the camera in conjunction with my FL-40 flash, the camera kept getting confused and getting the wrong exposure and completely blowing out the picture. The only way to remedy the problem was to turn off the camera and the flash and then to turn them both on again. Also, my viewfinder was much darker than my UZI making it very hard to use it indoors. I never had this problem with the UZI. Finally, even though the precapture and the the burst is AWESOME on this camera, for normal single shot use, I thought that it was a little sluggish compared to my UZI. So, when I sent in the camera, I mentioned all of the above except for the single shot sluggishness and the dark viewfinder. I forgot to tell them about that.
I toook out my camera yesterday and put it through its paces. Talk about a transformation! Everything was fixed (except for ONE pixel on the EVF) and the single shot performance matches or beats my UZI. The autofocus is fast and I can even focus in the dark with the help of the assist beam. I could not do that before I sent it in. Like I said, I'm estatic.
To make a short story long, Olympus America will fix your NTSC camera from Germany and if you have an auto focus problem or any problem that you think is different from that of the UZI (for those of you who have both), send it in. I was completely amazed at the transformation. I tried to check to see if there was a firmware upgrade but I could not find it in the EXIF info. Sorry for the long post but people had asked for me to chime in when I had the camera back. Now to take some pictures.
