5D focus marks not completely lit...

Amazon tends to sell things from different vendors. Some of those vendors are the "black-hat" vendors operating out of brooklyn that are scammers.

I wouldn't trust them. Always buy from reputable camera stores!
 
My camera was sold directly by Amazon. It states in the item's description exactly who is selling it, whether it be Amazon directly or a vendor such as Adorama. The best thing about Amazon is their replacement guarantee and the fact that I saved almost 300 dollars in tax alone.

Normally, I buy everything from B&H as they're less than 3 miles away from my apartment, but I try to avoid sales tax as much as possible.

me too, $300 sales tax hurt from B&H when I got my 5D.

just becareful which vendor you're getting it from when using amazon:

I see a few of those shady dealers listed at the bottom.

Another thing to note is, true we can dodge sales tax by ordering out of state, but if the government finds out about it later, they could comeback and charge us salestax+interest which would really sting.
 
Yes, my camera was sold directly from Amazon as well, and not from a third-party vendor. In any event, I am perfectly happy with it at $2990 delivered to my door overnight. Now I gotta fill in the rebates and off we go hoping for another $300 from Canon.

Great...I just ordered my 5D from Amazon yesterday, do you think it should be ok or should I just return it and buy it from B&H?

You'll probably be fine as long as you got it directly from amazon or from one of their reputable dealers. If you got it from one of their not-so-reputable dealers, you might be in trouble.
