Thanks for posting the example.

It shows very well how the action performs. I am currently tweaking it to make it even more automated.

Works great Fred, here's an example:

I've tried this and the pupils always turn out a mid gray color unlike the dark black as shown in the images a couple of posts back.

I'll admit that I am a PhotoShop newbie but I am software literate. I tried resampling colors but didn't want to mess with the settings in the action.

What am I doing wrong?

I downloaded the file, unzipped it, opened it up, it launched photoshop, but exactly what do I do next in order to use it?

John:

Have you copied the action into the following folder: Program Files, Adobe, Photoshop, Presets, Photoshop Actions -- if you're using Photoshop 6.0 or in PS 5 -- Program Files, Adobe, Photoshop 5.0, Goodies, Actions?

Open Photoshop and see if the action shows in the History/Action toolbar on the right side of your screen. If not, click on the circle with the right facing arrow to the right of that toolbar . . . and select the option to "Load Action." Locate the action in the folder where you copied it and click ok. To use the action, select it in the actions toolbar, then click the run button near the bottom of the toolbar.

Hope this helped a bit. If not, post another question in this thread stating where it is that you're stuck.

This is probably a supid question....but...after i select the pupils with the ellipse tool (they become black), then i think i am supposed to highlight redeye and hit play. when i do this it stopss with an error message saying that the feather tool option is not available. what am i doing wrong?

thanks.--Keith

When I select the red section of the eye with the ellipse tool, I get the marching ants. Then I hit play and the action stops on feather. At this point I have to hit play again. You might check to see if you have an amount selected in the feather box at the top on the toolbar right below the main menu. When I attempt to use the action with a selection of 1 pixel -- the error shows up; at 3 pixels, it works fine.

Let me know if this solves your problem.

This is just what I've been wanting. I just d/l'd it and plan on giving it a try tonight. Thanks!

Fantastic action, Fred! Does it just work with 6.0 and PC?

Eva
Eva,
I just updated my Red-eye Removal action and made it compatible
with Photoshop 5, 5.5 and 6 (PC, and Mac).
You can download the new version here:

(Scroll down to the "Free Photoshop actions” section)

Thanks Fred , this is the best I've used yet.. the most natural.
It's on my action defaults from now on.

I tried it again. Now it works fine. Btw I tried using the lasso to select the areas and it seems to work as well. I think I was seeing with the M tool that I was also changing the eyelid area so I tried lasso.

Beats me why it works now.

Thanks Fred for a great action!

I just developed a Photoshop 6.0 action that fixes red eye on our
shots.
Hi people ,
this is what i do for that RED eye removal

Go into your RGB channels. You'll notice that most/all of the affected
area is in the Red channel .The red eye area in the Green and
Blue channels should be healthy, and should look similar. Go to either
the Green or Blue channel and select with the Eleptical Marquee tool the
dark part of the eye (pupil & irus). You can select some of the white
of the eye too, but make sure you don't select any skin! When it's
selected, copy it to the clipboard. Go to your Red channel, and
Paste!! Red eye gone, and looks very realistic.

With this technique, you 'may' get a slight color cast in the eye.
Luckily, the cast would probably be a shade of green or blue. If you
need to tint it another color, click on the RGB composite, and with the
selection still active, go to Hue/Saturation, and tint it what ever
color you want!
and thats my 5 cents worth

PS E has a red eye removal tool on your tool bar...works great.
