In the past I was searching for an easy app to display the EXIF header generated by most digital cameras.
If you are interested what I'm using, have a look at:
http://www.homepages.de/[email protected]/en.html

The EXIF header (and the HTML generation) are without any limitation (as with so many apps out there).

It includes the full set of the EXIF 2.1 specification, but some cameras might have some modification. Well, who knows...

Jurgen

cool program!
When you will add a feature to send mail from within the show?
How did you make the bilinear resizing so fast?
The exif displays correctly with my Olympus ;)

Check out the new version 2.3a on this page:
http://www.homepages.de/[email protected]/en.html

There is a new filter for the resizing (you have to turn the filter on in the options)

The shareware restiction is very low (no EMail / print feature)

Jurgen,

Is there a way to make DiaShow autorun a slideshow? By this I mean is there command line syntax which can load a slideshow and present the pictures without the user pressing any keys? I saw the "automatically from CD" message: "[autorun] OPEN-DiaShow.exe -path \samples1 -viewmode fullscreen"

I can get it to open DiaShow, but when trying to use this syntax (unless I don't understand the syntax correctly) the program doesn't find a folder called for on the CD and thus doesn't begin to run anything. It also presents the "register" block two times??

Lin

Lin, you should use the autoshow option for the command line:
-autoshow starts with automatic display mode
-autoshowdelay [time in sec] sets the delay for automatic display mode

This way the show will start without any user input.
Do you need to have the slideshow on CD with the autostart feature?

Please contact me on [email protected] with your specific question. I will follow up on this.

The next week I will post a new version 2.4 with new features.

A preview is available on:

Thanks
Jurgen

I downloaded this onto my NT 4.0 (SP5) machine at work and I'm not able to get the information out of the EXIF header. It only shows the tag "ImageDescription" and nothing else [unless I've tagged the photo--it WILL show the keyword I've assigned]. This is with a Sony DSC-D770. The other program I'm using (EXIFRead) seems to be able to get all of the stuff. But DiaShow looks much nicer. :-(

Is there anything I can do to get the EXIF info?

Richard.

Hi Richard,

if it's possible to send me a sample picture to check?
In the latest version 2.4 I added support for mixed JFIF and EXIF headers.
What version are you using?

Jurgen,

I'm able to read the EXIF from my DSC-D770 without any problem. I'll check it on both versions and let you know.

By the way, are you getting your emails?? I've sent you 4 and haven't heard back??

Lin

Hi Lin,

my EMail account on hotmail.com is working and I'm receiving EMail, but none from you.
Pls check the adress: [email protected]

Jurgen,

I just checked version 2.4 and it doesn't display the header info from my D770 either. It does display the header information from my C2000Z Olympus and my C2500L Olympus.

I'll try sending you a test email now. I didn't get any of the four previous one's back, so someone else must be getting them :-))

Lin

Yes, looks like someone else enjoyed the mail...

Can you pls send me a sample to check? Looks like the JFIF header support doesn't work with the layout Sony is using. Interesting
You can also include my alternative address: [email protected]

Jurgen,

I sent all the old emails as a reply to your direct email. Also, in case you don't get them, let me know on the forum if you want me to attach a D770 file where the header doesn't work and send it, or I can post it an you can download that way in case the emails don't get to you.

Lin

It would be the best if you post the image somewhere for me to download and check.

(So far I haven't received any mail from you. Pls send again, I removed my SPAM filter...)

I updated the verison to 4.2a on:

The 2.4a works much better! Thanks.
There are a few things I'm seeing that you might want to take a look at.

http://rhjensen.00me.com/photo.html

I've put 4 photos here (640x480/high quality).
I've varied the Exposure mode: Program, Aperture, Shutter, Manual.
DiaShow doesn't interpret these properly.
I've also varied the shutter speed and F-stops.
DiaShow wasn't showing the same values my camera shows.

The embedded keyword indicates the Exposure mode, ISO, F-stop, and shutter.

I'm not sure how to register DiaShow. I clicked on the register button but nothing seemed to happen!

Richard.

Hi Richard,

there is a bug in the Sony software when writing the f-stop and exposure time values. These values are represented by a pair of integers that gets calculated as: f=a/b

In addition in my EXIF modul I was rounding up/down the values to the next regular value (1/64, 1/128, 1/256, ...).

This is adjusted in the new version 2.4b I just uploaded, but you will still see some differences from your setting. There is no solution (unless Sony will put the correct rational values there...)

I haven't seen this for other cameras like Kodak, Olympus and Nikon.

Please send me a mail to [email protected] and we can follow up on this or even talk to Sony about this.

Jürgen -- Thanks for the quick update! I've downloaded the 2.4b version and like it a lot. I'm not sure how we would follow up with Sony but I might see if I can track down a customer support site and just log the question. I've verified that the exposure mode is correct and your f-stop and shutter speed values match what I was seeing in other programs (even if my camera reports different values).

Thanks again.

Richard.

Richard,

There's probably nothing that can be done since Sony doesn't use firmware which is user upgradeable. As long as the figures are in the ballpark, it's probably not that important, as long as they are close to what you set.
