Can anyone explain to me why people sell camera's and lenses on ebay and then remove the UPC codes from the box when there is a rebate availbable? Is the seller submitting for the rebate so the buyer cannot? I would think the camera or lens would sell better with the UPC code on the box for the buyer. I am looking to buy the digital rebel and some lenses. I was perplexed by this ebay phenomenom.

Usually it is because the person has submitted the item for the rebate and is hoping for a high resell on ebay. Some lenses will get very close to new purchase prices, if not more.

The seller may have claimed the rebate last year (or whenever they bought it new) and are now selling it used and wanted the buyers to know that the box was "altered" so they wouldn't be surprised. Most eBay purchases would not be valid for rebates anyway unless the seller was an "authorized dealer" and the item was new.
