How do yo make the copyright symbol on a laptop ?

thanks.

What kind of laptop? One running Windows? What font and character set?

Under Windows, try Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map. There you can select a font and view all of the available characters and symbols. The program will show you the keystroke or keystroke combination you can use to access the selected character or symbol, or you can copy the character to the clipboard and then paste it into another program.

For most Western language character sets and code pages, holding down the ALT key and pressing 0169 on the numeric keypad will produce a copyright symbol.

Yes, switch the laptop keyboard to "numeric keypad" mode, then use the normal Alt plus numbers method, then switch back to normal keyboard mode.

Another of the many options is to prepare a text file with the special characters, and when you need one, just copy and paste from that text file.

On a laptop: Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map
Highlight the symbol and click copy, then paste into your image or document.

Thanks for all your help.

I confess that is what I did, I searched Google for "copyright symbol" then just cut and pasted the result into a text file (along with a million other things...)

I was surprised I didn't see someone else mention it, but if you are using Microsoft Word (and probably other word processing programs), you can just type this:
(c)

When you hit the spacebar after that it will be changed to a copyright symbol. This is due to the presence of this combination in the AutoCorrect settings. To see other symbol shortcut key combinations, go to Insert, Symbol.

You can add additional combinations to the AutoCorrect list by hitting the AutoCorrect button on the bottom of this interface. This is the same list used to correct frequently misspelled words, so you will see other mappings here, such as changing "teh" to "the".
