I really like my 707

After 10 days with the 707, here's my conclusion. It's going back. There's nothing wrong with it but it's certainly not the "silver bullet" in digcams. Side by side comparisons with pictures taken with the S75 fail to reveal any favorable difference whatsoever either viewed on the monitor or prints. Matter of fact, I have not seen any 707 pix posted that compare with those taken by Ron Parr and Cubfan. It's just too much of an investment for mediocre results. Best wishes, Gary
I bought my 707 last Friday at Best Buy. They gave me a decent
price plus I got the 4 year warranty dealie for 60 bucks which is
damn cheap protection. I've taken a couple hundred pix with it and
frankly, haven't had one bad one that could be attributed to the
camera. Sorry to disappoint many of you but I really don't have
one thing to ***** or whine about. Best regards, Gary

I'm glad you like my pictures! Just to be fair: I do some photoshop work on my shots before I post them and I suspect that cubfan does too.

You forgot Andreas P. He takes some superb pictures with the 707 too.

It's too bad you feel that way. The 707 is really a great tool but even the best tools need to be used extensively and practiced with before one gains credible results. Perhaps you're being premature in returning it, no?

Admittedly, maybe that is a compliment to the S75 anyway... Perhaps 5mp is not such a big leap from 3.3mp but certainly for me - with experience only with 1.3mp, 2.1mp, 2.3mp and the max of 2.5mp - it is a remarkable difference.

Gary,

Can't fault your decison, after all, you are the one who decides if the camera is right for you or not. I had a G2, I have an E-10 and I like(d) them both. They both take great pictures. They are different but all good. The 707 is right there. I've taken many, many pictures with all cameras and have to say that they all have their strong points. I beg to differ with you saying that their aren't good 707 images. You may not have "seen" them. Everybody is busy bitchin about this problem or that that noone wants to look at or post pics anymore. Here are a couple of galleries that have some good 707 images. Content not withstanding, just look at the images the camera can take. Good luck with your decison and next camera. The G2 or E-10/20 may be more to your liking.

Kind regards,

Ron

Ron: I didn't mean to infer that that the 707 shots posted are inferior to anything. There isn't a decernable difference in most pictures posted no matter whether it's a 75, 85 or 707. Really, it's a matter of content and the taker's artistic ability and savvy in using the camera. Then there's a matter of economics and ergonomics. To me, spending several hundred more began to look ludicrous when I compared the results. I also didn't like the buttons and controls all over the camera. I'm going to settle back, read the posts, paying particular attention to the shots of Coke and Sprite cans. It will be a very long time before I purchase a new camera. Thanks for your thoughtful post. Best regards from Kansas City, Gary

I can't believe that the guy who started this thread is returning his 707! LOL
is GLP a troll? why are you returning it again? be more specific?

Also, does best buy charge a restock fee? a $150 restock fee would be hard for me to swallow...

How did I miss this thread. HaHaHaHA. LOL Someone starts a thread like this and says the camera is just great and has no complaints. Then in his next breath says well I am returning it. Thats just to funny HAHAHAHAHAHA

But I love my 707. No regrets here. No BFS or LEVBFS in 400 shots still cant get over this. This has to be the Nightshot and Lowlight King.--Steven

$150 restocking fee plus a $60 service plan down the tank. Yikes.

relax GLP. no need to calling me names.

Your behavior on this thread was just funny, strange, and troll like. You start off encouraging others to speak out if they like their 707's, and then you bluntly state that you returned yours. you seemed to me to be a disrupter, hence the troll comment.

doesn't best buy charge a restock fee? how did you get around that? claim a defect in the camera?
I paid no restocking fee and I'm not a troll d---head. I didn't
like the thing. GLP

Well Gary, there is actually quite a difference in photo quality when you print a 5 MP image and a 3.3 MP image to 8 X 10 size. My 2 cents....

Add me to the list too. It's amazing how the complaint threads stay on top and the no-complaint threads get burried right away.

I'm learning about the differences between what colors you see on the screen vs. what the printer sees which has nothing to do with the 707 like many people believe. If you take the time to do the research, you will enjoy the great results coming from the 707.

Ditto to one of the above posts about the flash. That thing scares the you know what out of me when it pops up without me expecting it :)

Well Trevor, there really isn't when you use good printing equipment. I do nothing bigger than 8X10 and I found NO difference between S75 and F707 pictures. Cheers, Gary

JT: You appear to be one of those that seems to know everything with no portfolio. I did like the F707 when I first got it but after using it I grew very disturbed with it. I did a lot of comparision with it and the S75 and concluded, it was not an upgrade. I did in fact return the thing to BB with prints that showed it was not what it was said to be. They agreed that with that particular 707, it was no better and sometimes worse than stuff done with the S75. I wish I never had made the post in the first place but I did. This was the fourth Sony digital that I have had. I know how to use them and know what I expect. So, you and all of those like you that like to make your smart remarks remember, each of us have a perfect right to their opinion and how they spend thier dough. It's a sad day when good stuff is posted with something other than a F707 and ignored while a picture of Coke cans done with the "DA" gets 68 posts. Gary

This is my first digital camera. I LOVE my 707. I tried to hold out for the CP5000 Review and thought about the G2, but decided on the 707 and haven't looked back. Composition is they key to great photography and the zoom lens and resolution combo make the 707 a winner! I cannot tell you how often I use the full 5x optical zoom.

The hologram, night-frame, and twighlight features kick ass! The second photo I shot was so impressive that a co-worker took it from me and is having it framed for his office. There are a few things to learn around but that's true of all cameras. My friends, co-workers, and family will soon be sick of me bragging about my camera everyday.

Hee's another decision-maker: I live in a hot climate and figure that the memory stick, battery, and display being physically seperated from the chip will buy me some precious degrees this summer.

I would just like to say this is not the first time anyone has purchased a product and had buyers remorse, realizing that the cost for the upgrade wasn't worth it for thier needs. I bought a f707 and have no regrets, but I also didn't already own a good quality digital camera. I have sometimes excitedly jumped into purchases myself and then decided it wasn't really worth it. Good for GLP for choosing a company (Best Buy) that has good customer service and a liberal return policy, try getting that from a discount internet site. Also Best Buy with accept a return on a extended warantee purchase.
