Two questions...

The literature says that there is a "Video Out" jack in the 990. Does this mean that you could run a cable from the 990 to your TV or VCR and caputure the real-time display on the TV/VCR instead of (or in addition to) the 990's LCD?

On NIKON's website there is a downloadable PDF-formatted brochure that displays two 990's - one with a purple fingergrip and one with a red fingergrip. Also, I've read several reviews some reviewers had camera's with purple finger grips and some with red. What's the difference?

Regards,

Dan.--Dan

According to Nikon (in another forum) I believe he said that the purple grip is for US distribution, the red grip elsewhere.

I've heard of grey market cameras.... perhaps this is the Purple Market

Alan,

Well that clears up one mystery. :-)

On my CP950 the video out jack sends a video (TV compatible) signal out
of the camera. Using the supplied cord to attach to the VideoIn jack on
the TV you can select Video or Aux on your TV and show the pictures on the
"Big Screen". It's fun for others, but not for you because the supplied
cord is so short that you have to sit almost in front of the TV to operate
the camera controls. You need to figure out how to run a slide show of the
pictures and the "pause time between pictures" option so that you can move
back and enjoy the show.
Good Luck
Dave

If you haven't seen the output from a 950 video out, you are in for a treat. The live picture isn't fabulous but it does let you set up a shot and see things at 10 or more frames per second in pretty good color. When you play the shot back it's incredibly good. And all the zooming in and overlays show on the TV as well.

The 990 promises to be even better with continuous zoom and pan on the playback. It will also put out both NTSC and PAL from the same camera with a menu choice. You'll need different extension cords for the video signal of each, I hear.
