Pics from my ugly hometown....

if I lived in such an ugly place! However do you stand it? LOL! Beautiful shots.

Yeah, the old vikings were someting of their own. Berserk, doped on
fly agaric or whatever. But they sure could build boats! There's
still signs of the vikings around the country, and not too far from
here was a large headquarters. There's still visible remainings
from their houses and quite many grave-mounds. The sories of their
achevements are as numberous as they are adventurous.
And one of them discovered America, though my Icelandic boss will
claim he came from Iceland. But we all know where the Icelandics
came from, don't we?...LOL
LOL!! Well, ypu know what the letest theory is ?? A group in Spain have found (largely anecdotal) evidence that Christopher Columbus visited Ireland and met up with some Icelanders there. It was through them that he became convinced the land Iclenaders had discovered (now called Newfoundland) was in fact the extreme edge of Asia - and thus a route in to China/India! Anyway, I will be in Reykjavik in 3 weeks time - so I'm really looking forward to what it was that attracting so many to make the perilous journey from the safety of Skane to the cold, windy volcanic island! A few years a go I read Jesse Byock's excellent book called "Viking Age Iceland" - its a MUST for anyone even slightly interested in Viking history.
This pic is from Engeløya (Angel Island) a little north of here.
This was a known Viking headquarters, and many important
archaeological findings has been done here. In the bright area at
the lower left of the picture was a collection of viking buildings,
which traces of are still visible.
Wow - didn't know about this at all - thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I've seen some ruins of Viking Long Houses in Scotland and of course in Danmark.

There is a University in Tromso. Maybe I can find some conference or collaboration there and then take my own aurora pics!! ;-)

Thanks again for the pictures and the history lesson. Enjoy your unique private Kingdom! ;-))

Well... We can drink the water from the tap...unless it's frozen...LOL

The air is clear and mostly unpolluted...unless there's another nuclear meltdown east of the border :-) You definitively can't trust the air here...LOL

Thanks Susan!

NB! Guess next time I'll try my sympathy luck at another forum...LOL

I for one really enjoy and appreciate a good portion humour :-)

It is indeed a magnificent place, when the weather is nice. Unfortunately here by the west coast we have our good share of overcast weather. The winter is long and dark, and the summer nights are bright as day. But I guess I can live with that :-)

But, as you say, the Big Thaw makes a real mess. You wouldn't believe all the dirt the kids drag indoors this time of year. Makes my wife real happy...yeah right!..LOL
