Is it possible to put two different photos into photoshop editor at the same time (so I can see them both at the same time) and clone from one photo to the other? Couldn't figure out how to get two photos side by side in photoshop to try it.
Thanks
Marcia

Just open the second image as usual and clone away :))

Thanks PP. I'm glad to know that it can be done but I have never opened two photos in the editor at once. I click and drag the two photos from the organizer to the editor and get one photo on the screen and the second in the bin but don't know how to get the two photos on the screen at the same time. Couldn't find the answer in Adobe help nor by pushing buttons! PP beginner here! :-(
Thanks
Marcia

just open them one at a time, control c on one and control v on the other like cut and paste and change the opacity to your taste, anything less than 100% will show the other image underneath as see thru...kind of ghostly image
(make sure you have a lot of memory , 1GB or more will do the job best)

if u want side by side , try photomerge under file -> automate and choose your pics and arrange them side by side
Cheers,

Hi deevee. I think I'm missing something obvious here!! I need to have the photos side by side in Editor so tried photomerge which ends up looking like one photo because the images being merged are so similar (I think!) When I tried 'unlike' random photos, photomerge won't work and I still can't get the photos to the Editor window which has the clone tool.
Thanks

Can you not open both images at the same time? Window / Arrange / Tile to view them side by side - it may be that one is filling your work window and completely covering the other.

Once you have them side by side, click on the one you want to change and click the Clone icon. To pick up the clone source (in Windows, hold down Alt) move the pointer onto the other (non-active) window and choose what you want to copy. Then let go of the (e.g.) Alt key and "paint" this onto the first image.

It seems sensible for both images to have the same mode (e.g. RGB or greyscale) and ideally the same colour profile.

Phewww!! Thanks Richard! Had to do some fiddling around but got it! Don't have an 'arrange' so just went straight to Tile. Still couldn't get it to work UNTIL I realized that I had set the Opacity to almost nil when trying the overlay so what I was trying to do was not showing! As a beginner, I had no idea what tile was for. Very slow learning here!
Thanks a million!

Thanks Dave. Good thing you mentioned this too because I wouldn't have figured it out! Finally got 'it' (see above response!)
Thanks again

Hi Marcia, an easy way is to resize the canvas size to douyble,
open the other image, select all, copy it, go to the firast image
and paste as a new swlwction, flatten the image. Then it´s easy to
clone things from a image to the other.

Thanks for the input Jussi! I haven't figured out this sequence yet but did manage to get two different photos showing in the palette bin layers section. Got one photo on top of the other with the top one being smaller. Was able to clone from one to the other but don't know how to separate (just using random photos at this point). Then got them adjoined and wasn't able to clone. Basically, I know how to click and drag multiple selections into the Editor from the Organizer. From there on, it's all experimenting since I don't know what buttons to push. LOL Bought a PP book which doesn't seem to cover this question - it might but I can't find it. LOL...I'm amazed at my ignorance with post processing! I have to go out so will work on this later tonight.
Thanks again

I'm not sure you need to combine the two photos together.

Photoshop can clone pixels from one file into another directly, if the two files are open at the same time.

you can open as many images as you want into your workspace. Just make sure none are in a maximized window. Here is a screenshot of 4 images I just opened. I selected the cat image as donor....just the selected hilited image. Select your clone stamp tool and set by alt/click on the donor cat....then I went to my estate sale pic and started the clone...hope this helps.....please ask any ??

Personally, I open from file/open and never use the organizer...that's just my preference.

Hi RP. No, I didn't want them combined but separate, as you directed, so I could clone one to fix the other. I just didn't know how to open them at the same time until you explained earlier or if I could clone one from the other....and from Dave, making sure I was maximizing them. Now, I have to practice!:-))
Thanks again

These answers are helping me too. Never knew you could have more than one open at a time, and I've been using elements and its predecessor for about 4 years. so learning isn't just for beginners.

Hi Dave....one of those days with the phone ringing and distractions galore BUT I actually did as you showed me above and was going to show you my handwork but can't remember how to 'print screen' either so just deleted the whole piece of cloned pie and cake that I was going to offer you!:-)) I use the organizer because it's more organized than my files!!...and it has pictures!:-) More appts., etc. so have to find another moment somewhere to work on the photo I have in mind! Thanks for all the help.

Thanks Anne. There's nothing like a little moral support!:-)) Because I don't know what is where or how to use it, I need very specific instructions as....."In editor, open windows> .....etc.etc."

This forum is top notch - THANKS EVERYONE!!! - for helping people solve problems!

It seems to me that some of your difficulty was with controlling image windows (with a small "w", I don't know if you are on a Mac, Windows or what) and also with working on multiple files inside a software program.

It may seem tedious and dry as dust, but some time spent with a book or tutorial disk for your particular computer operating system, or better still half an hour of what I call "assume-nothing" general instruction from a trusted patient person, would pay great dividends.

In my job, I've seen people's confidence with a software package shoot up once they become comfortable with these "infrastructure" aspects. To a large degree, it's about learning the right terminology - then you can link directly into the right concepts of what's going on.

If you can read the street signs, and use the money, being in a foreign country suddenly gets much easier!
