If Sony comes out with a DSLR that can take Carl Zeiss lens, how many of you will convert

to make me switch. Nikon and Canon have a huge selection of lenses...and they are the only 2 DSLR systems I'd use.

Fancy calling it "alpha" too, anyone in software circles knows that alpha means not all features are complete and untested. Beta being complete but not tested for bugs.

Yeah, but those are manual focus. I would imagine any Zeiss lenses for Sony DSLR would be autofocus. Or maybe I'm just totally wrong.

On a slightly unrelated topic, are the "Zeiss" lenses on Sony prosumers actually Zeiss lenses (i.e. are they as good as "real" Zeiss lenses) or is it just badge engineering?

Aside from not wanting to completely move over to new bodies and lenses and everything else, I'd have to be comfortable with the Sony sensors. My understanding is that they're supplying the Nikon sensors, and if that's the best they can do, I'd be concerned with low light performance. Many of us decided to go with Canon at least in part because of this issue. Lenses are only as good as the sensor behind them.

Atfter owning 3 Sony cameras and a Sony videocam, I can say with 100% certainty that I will NEVER AGAIN buy a Sony imaging product, no matter what lenses they accomodate.

Their colour rendition is always off and Sony clings to those stupid electronic viewfinders.

The R1 might have been a half-decent P&S if it wasn't for the EVF.

But no thanks, I'll stick to Canon and its professional glass. It won't be long until Canon (and Nikon too, probably) have live preview dSLR. Then it's all gravy!

...but most of their product line is 'meh'.

i don't asume that lot will unless Sony comes out with an earth shattering technological breackthrough in somthing.....

but, either way, there are ALOT of people that will buy it simply beucase "Sony" is on it....silly but what are you going to do, they have done a good job at associating their name with expensive goods, but goods of a certain quality

personaly i wish they would fall into a hole, but meh....

Thanks for the link. That's going to be a really great camera! I know because they told me so :> )

This is, by the way, from the same Sony company that introduced a worm in thyousands of computers because they didn't want people to copy their music for their CDs! Sony is DEFINITELY on my bad list. They seem to sell quite a lot of consumer-level goods, but I'll be pretty dubious about their attempts at quality - if your whole philosophy is make-it and sell-it quick and cheap, there may be some definite corporate philosophy problems with going to long-term high-quality and reliability. Let's all check back when the have a track record - say, in 2016.

Check out KM list of lenses. Which one are you missing? What's your budget? ;)

Only advantage of C and N over other amateur systems is availability of glass for rent. Period. KM's lineup covers the same range and has the same or even better quality of glass (70-200 2.8 G SSM for instance), but most of these lenses are more expensive than Canon's. Plus new lenses are coming up. CZ will add some lenses too.

With tendency of C to put maximum stuff into lenses and sell them very expensive, I doubt you'll save anything even using rent.

I believe real photographers will not care to switch. But gearheads will make a buzz here. :)
