A little disappointed in B&H…

isn't it a double edged sword? It's nice to be able to return, but there's also a pretty good chance you'll purchase a returned item as new?
I bought my 300D from them and I never have been treated so rudely
from any place like that before. Their sales people are just plain
rude!
I have seen this Henry guy from B&H on these forums before. To me
it seems like they only employ him for browsing these photography
sites and cleaning up their mess.
If they would just treat people respectfully when they call and
offer competitive prices then they wouldn’t need somebody like this
Henry the janitor.

Just my experiences.
I have never had any problems with B&H. They are polite and kind.
Their return policy and treatment are good for me.

I've met Henry Posner and he's a pretty good guy. Lurking on these boards and resolving problems isn't his only job but a valuable resource as best I can tell. I don't see the other retailers brave enough to show their virtual faces here in the lion's pit.

Sometimes Henry can be a bit hard on people with less than valid complaints - he tends to tell it like it is, backed by the facts. Understand too that while he is here to help keep customers and resolve issues, he is employed by B&H and is beholden to his employer, as are we all.

I manage a staff that is involved in customer service; things don't always go well and I have to fix things and correct my employees. Generally B&H has a great reputation. Sometimes someone has a bad day, or may not "get it" when it comes to customer service. Then a supervisor (like Henry) has to step in and make things right without givng away the farm.

And no retailer is perfect in everyone's eyes. Some of you may not ever like B&H and that's why G*d invented competition.

I've been dealing with B and H for years and have found them to be most helpful over the years. There has been a few occasions where a sales rep didn't want to give any advice but just wanted to take orderes. But that happens with every company. We have 20 people in my company and simple mistakes are made. I can only imagine how many can be made in a company as large as B & H. Great Job.

Now where's my free gift Henry. 8-)

...even thinking B&H would come down that much on the 30D. If B&H had a history of price-matching, I'd say you have a valid complaint. In the years I've been buying from them and the years I've monitored forums, I've never known them to price-match. As much as I've been happy with buying from B&H, I will admit that if Roberts had the camera in stock, I wouldn't have hesitated getting it from them. They didn't, so I bought it from B&H for $100 more. It would have been nice getting it for $1249, but I made the decision to not wait since I've been known to be a bit impatient when I want something. You win some, you lose some.

No, B&H isn't perfect. Nothing in life is perfect. But they are consistent, reliable, and a lot cheaper than list, which is what my local stores insist upon. I'm willing to pay a bit more for a sure thing. I'm too old and cranky to deal with the less reliable folks.

So I buy just about everything at B&H. THanks Mr. Posner and your staff.

There seems to be a lot of people here who have used B&H. I made my first purchase from them Saturday night (web site). How long does it usually take for them to process and ship an order?

I have been watching digital SLRs since 1989 and finally decided to go for it. I ordered a coupld of Canon 580EX flashes and a 20-700mm f/2.8 IS USM, and a few other things.

I opted for B&H because of their prices and their reputation.

They should be able to process your order on Sunday and ship it out on Monday assuming there were no issues with the credit company.

Remember they closes early Friday afternoon and reopens on Sunday. There are some major holidays these two weeks. Check with their web site to see their schedule. If they cannot ship your order tomorrow, it may not go out until next Friday morning.

Hi Henry,
I didn't realized someone on this site is with the store. Unitl I
saw your posts.
Thanks. I've been here since Jan, 2000.
Anyways, the main point. I called to return a camera 30D which had
a focus point light not work and the person I spoke with was very
great to deal with. My 18 month old started crying and he stood on
the line as I went to her. He even asked about her and talked
about his cats etc. Again, nice person. Sometimes the only time
we hear feedback is when something goes wrong so. Here is one for
the better.
Thank you. I know with whom you spoke and will share your sentiments with him and his supervisor.

Last year I was looking for a place to order a 400 L lens. I was
all ready to try B&H, but found out that their online international
ordering process was lacking the required security to provide a
safe consumer transaction.
I am sorry you have somehow developed this inaccurate misapprehension.

We're happy to work with any customer to ensure a mutually satisfactory transaction.

Henry, you gotta realize that post came from the guy who was "highly disappointed" in the 30D because he had set his expectations for what Canon SHOULD do so high, that Canon just couldn't meet them. He probably expects more than a janitor....

No, that's not my middle finger....

Sorry Henry, but it wasn't an inaccurate misapprehension. Nor were you happy to work with me to ensure a mutually satisfactory transaction. Asking a customer to scan both sides of their credit card and then sending you the images via unsecured email is akin to just putting the thing in an envelope, sending it around the globe and hoping it will come back some day without mishap.

As I said, it's nothing personal, just that there are other more secure methods available to authenticate your intl. customers. Adorama found a way. You on the other hand took a defensive and dismissive stance of my concerns and didn't budge or make any attempt to discover an alternative.

Anyway, I didn't want this to turn into any type of slinging match as I really don't hold any grudge against B&H. It's undeniable that you run one of the leading photo businesses on the internet. Unfortunately in my view, you leave yourself open to a security vulnerability. If you want to continue to use an obviously flawed practice that's fine, but you won't get my business until I can feel safe in using your service - simple as that.

I'm sure neither of us will loose any sleep over the issue :)

Over the years, I have purchased from B&H perhaps a dozen or so times, mostly over the Internet. A few months ago, I sold them some used equipment. When they saw what they got, they even upped the price quote they gave me and then they Fed Ex'd me the check. (Your experience may vary -- it was better equipment than they expected.) Sometimes their people are a little gruff and there was at least one time when I was a disappointed with their attitude -- well, I'm adult enough to know that I'm not always at my best either. My experience is that they work hard to sell at a fair price and to act with integrity in what has to be a challenging business environment. That's more than can be said about many e-tailers.

Jerry Davis is a Henry Posner want to be. They are not even close.

Henry had been on the net for as long as I can remember even back then news group was the only form of online forum.

Jerry Davis had shown up here only a several months ago and nowhere else, saying like he's been on the net for years. He wasn't. I asked him to show me his oldest on-line posting, he never even replied to it.

Adorama was a faceless company for a long time which marketting stratgey was to cheat and hide(cutting off all the communication with the customer once the problem become obvious) Once they do that, you have no place you can take your problem to.

That didn't make his job easier unlike B&H which had earned their mark in the industry by their honesty.

I would suggest Jerry Davis, if he wants to come out here and help the customers, he should take up the problem they made n the past first.
===========================
Jerry G. (Jerry Davis) from Adorama also faces up to
customers here.

You shuld be happy B&H had tough hurdles to pass to seperate you from your money. This is obviously done to protect B&H interests, yet it also serves to protect you from fraud. I.E. someone using your CC to place equipment orders without your knowledge.

When I bought my initial 20d equipment from Adorama I went through great pain to prove I was who I claimed to be. The problem was I am staying at a trailer park doing work in New Orleans and could not give a bill or show proof of address. I ended up going to a Notary and faxed them a notarized letter and a copy of my drivers license.

This ended up being enough for the order to take place and we are talking domestic, not international.

Now the second order I placed with them was the easiest purchase of my life. Called Norm the salesperson who I originally dealt with and placed an order of 1800.00 over the phone and asked him to charge the same CC and ship it. Did not have to send them a letter authorizing it or anything else, just a verbal send it over the phone.

So in the end B&H is protecting not only themselves, but their customers as well and once you have a relationship built with them it will only get easier!

Highly recommend B&H and Adorama for your photographic needs.
