Your BEST daffodil picture please...

Any sign of daffodils in Scandinavia so far this year ?? It hasn't
been too good has it ?
The daffodils are on their way and they should be flowering in about 2 weeks. We've had a rather cold spring so far here at the west coast of Norway. March was the coldest for almost 50 years, so no wonder the spring blooming is a bit delayed. But at least, crocus is popping up and flowers nicely now.
These look very good indeed though - last year was great! Shooting
in RAW helps a LOT! The extra dynamic range really helps to pull
out the detail. I see you had to go all the way up to f16 (@55mm) -
very wise! That kit lens has done a pretty good job (and yet people
still complain about kit lenses!)
Yes, it's useful to stop down a bit when a larger DoF is needed for close up shots, and image distortion is less at the tele end. The kit lens is indeed performing well compared to its low price, but often image quality is more about using your equipment in the best way possible. Good post processing is even more important, and RAW is giving the best starting point for getting the most from your images. I shoot RAW exclusively, most of all because I have much better control with the colors.

I had a look at your flowewrs gallery - no shortage of lowers there! I think pBase is playing up at the moment as only some of the pictures are displaying in the large format. But I'll try again later...

This is more like it! Plenty of definition and good contrasty bulbs - looks like you've got the hang of suitable shooting settings. Keep up the good work.

hehe... the border was a quick effort in PS ... not sure i like it now tbh

i think it'll look good with a b/w effect for the background and leave the daffs in colour... hopefully i'll have some time to get round to some PP on my recent photos this Easter...

That's from February ?? You must be slighly further south. Its not
an easy subject is it ? Try shooting in RAW and underexposing a
little.

Thanks for contributing!

We had a fake spring and then the rains came... The shot was taken in raw... What gives the appearence it wasn't? Is it really overexposed or would the yellow just pop more being underexposed? Appreciate the feedback,

Those are interesting takes on the subject! I think your second picture of the dancing daff is quite poignant - daffodils survive for such a short period of time, that you feel 'robbed' - or cheated once they shrivel up and die. Its a sad sight. Then we start looking forward to them all over again for next year!!

--Thank you for the comment photofile--Appreciated...--I was looking at a few dead daffs in a vase and thought that some would look good as a photo, so I took a few shots n did a little digi work in PS..I kept looking at this one n thought 'It's Danceing on the stalk',so called it "Danceing Daff"
Was going to call it 'My Little Ballerina' as it looks like a Ballet Dancer!
This photo got me 20points to be first in our Camera Club..
Happy Photography n Take Care.

Hi all,

Thanks to Photophile, I learned how to include the images rather than just the links. I hope the files are not too large. If they are, I'll do my best to downsize them. The Gazania just bloomed a few days ago. Cheers to all...BC

These are the first daffodil pictures I am seeing ffrom a Sony DSC-H1. They're looking good. You'll have to put that flip-up screen to good use and get some pictures with the daffs against a blue sky! :-)

A bit more crisp (better defined edges) and a near-true yellow. You're getting there - keep up the good work.

Now you're getting the hang of it Bruce. The daffodil pictures is starting to look the business. Depending on how you much manual control you have over your camera, try under-exposing by about -0.3 stops. It'll just turn down that washed-out yellow look a bit. Wind doesn't help either - that's why its so tricky trying to take pictures of daffs outside - a biut of breeze and they flutter about all over the place.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks,

These aren't my best, but they are the only ones I had of this subject. The H1 can take some really nice pics.Doesn't have a flip screen though. That shure would make some shots easier to get.
