Just got a Rebel XT. Wanted to buy an extra battery. Lots of websites have generic batteries. Are the generics OK or should I stick with Authentic Canon? There's usually $50 difference.

Thanks in advance.

Canon pricing on those things is a scam..but in some cases so is the off brands..as in bad QC so keep this in mind..but id buy the off brand and return the ones that dont work..ie charger blinks green& red ..btw the Batt grip works with one Batt as well as two

I've owned 3 generic batteries for my 300D and 350D cameras and have shot over 15,000 photos with them. They last just as long as Canon's battery, or maybe more if you buy the higher mAh ones. Canon overcharges for their accessories, that's all.

how about just buying them from a company who sells the proper Canon batteries......but doesnt charge the Canon prices...

i know a lot of people here use this company, and i have done so 4 or 5 times in the past 4 years without any problems......

I bought a battery from sterlingtek based on reviews from this forum. It's worked great. I might buy a couple more soon. I wouldn't waste money on genuine canon.

My vote is for SterlingTek as well. I bought a couple of their batteries off Amazon for $25 inclusive of shipping - half the price of the Canon batteries. I used them on a camping trip with no access to power outlets and by the end of the week, after 500 shots, had only used up one.
