Hi Dave,
Flash photography 101: When using the flash hand held try to avoid

:D I did the same thing (many years ago) when a car drove into a Liquor Store :o

Cheers,

Jack

I like the effect though :-)

Or a blurry shot of his white umbrella rising above a crowd of well-wishers, anyhow. The classic once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I just could not convert. I bought my DS specifically for my first (and thus far only) trip to Europe for our honeymoon last spring. First thing in the morning on our first full day of the trip, in Rome, we head down to St. Peter's. We find a whole bunch of people standing around in the rain half a block away, none of whom seem interested in actually going into the cathedral. A rumor is spreading that the pope is expected to be returning along this route from a trip. Sure enough, after quite a long wait, we hear cheers going up, and a white umbrella slowly making its way through the crowd. I hate crowds, in part because I'm relatively short and can never see anything but other people's backs, but I managed to squeeze through close enough catch fleeting glimpses of the Pope between other people's shoulders. I vainly snapped my shutter in hopes of getting lucky, but I never got anything but the white umbrella. This is perhaps the best/worst of those shots:

For the rest of the trip, I didn't walk down the hall to go to the bathroom without taking my camera. After all, you never know when you're going to run into the pope. I got lots of wonderful pictures on the trip, attached to equally wonderful memories, but perhaps none I'll remember better than the one I didn't get.

Hi ya Scott,

Sadly, I don't necessarily have to 'bad shots' to show off my dirty sensor ;(

Evening Marc,

Great story and, at least, you tried, in fact, really tried.....taking your (camera) kit to the

toilet with you is admirable ;). I hope your wife had her own camera.....just in case the
Pope went to the wrong room :D

Your story is similar to my encounter with the (ex) Canadian PM, Jean Chretian, only I was too
close to him :o ?

Cheers,

Jack

Badly positioned. Flash shadowed by lens on wide angle. Then he leaped into my lap.

I spent the next 10 minutes cleaning dog slobber off the front of the lens (Sigma DC 18-55 - aussie kit lens)

cheers

Greg

G'Day Jack!!! back home again. (thanks for breakfast).

What makes this shot bad is that at exactly this moment to my right ( & behind these guys) a whale had leaped out of the water....and I missed it!!

Coming soon ( next week) Jack, my pictorial tribute to Canada.
Cheers
