350d visits the zoo

Hi all,

Had the 350d a short while, went to the zoo with the Canon 90-300mm. It was windy, chilly but tried to make the best of it. Using the barriers and fences for support.

What Zoo?

Fabulous pictures... I like the one of the otter just lying back.

What kind of quality do you get from that lens? ...i've considered getting a DSLR but from reading the forums I get the impression that I need to spend about £1000 for a decent zoom lens lol. The 90-300 is £128 at Jessops.

Yeah the otter chilling out makes me laugh!

Well I bought the budget lens to see how I got on. It's a lot of plastic, sticks out quite a bit at 300mm. Focussed fast enough on the day for me, (it's the non-usm model). Not that heavy either.

Needs a fair bit of light, it was a sunny day but cloud cover and shaded enclosures meant I couldn't get ideal shutter speeds.

At 100% the photos are not that great, that's reflected in the price! The pics you see here have had slight PP and resizing done and the end result is not too bad

For the price you can't go wrong really! But I have my eye on the Canon 70-200mm F/4 L, so the 90-300 will probably gather dust lol

Canon 70-200 L Yikes !!!!! thats the same price as the camera with the kit lens. Hmm it seems you do have to spend a vast amount of money to get great results from a DSLR...I don't think it's for me afterall.

Good lenses you keep, even if you decide to upgrade your camera body If you are not a professional, then in my opinion the range of budget lenses are not too bad. I don't want to put you off buying one!

It's how you choose to use your tools that counts

You always have the choice to upgrade to better kit later on.
