If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, chances are you will be surrounded by daffodils. I'd like to see your BEST - definitive - daffodil picture please. It can be a 'crowd' shot or an individual bulb, or a small group of bulbs. Any camera. Just ONE condition applies: It has to be taken outside, in natural light (so no indoor foam-core). If you can show EXIF data too, that would be very useful.

Thank you. Here's my effort:

A double-daffodil from central Mississippi.

I dont know whether its a daffodil, but it looks close enough. Maybe you guys can tell me what it is?

Not my best but I have to run out the door right now. It's top ten for sure of my daffodil photos.

Photophile,

That daffodil photo of yours sure is a winner. Lots of sharp detail from front to back, perfectly exposed. Probably more highlights are blown in daffodil photos than in any other subject -- not in your photo tho.

Interesting how difficult it is to admit a photo is your BEST of any particular kind. One of your best, OK; but BEST is risky.

I'm happy to say I avoid taking photos of daffodils. But if I ever did take one, it would be my best, de facto. As I was writing this post, I went out the door to take a look at my neighbor's daffodils, thinking of taking the plunge. But they were a bit over the hill, and I just couldn't do it. Maybe next year.

Superb effort Neil - Interesting use of DOF there and I like the yellow border to match! Not that easy getting that yellow just right is it ?

PS - there is no such thing as the "best" daffodil picture - its something that you keep going after, year after year - but never quite getting there! ;-)

Thanks for your cntribution.

Thank you very much - that has certainly given my confidence a bit of a much-needed boost! I tell you what - daffs are NOT that easy to get right. I rememebr we had a long discussion in the lighting forum last year regarding this very subject. Opinion was divided on whether to use spot metering, or centre-weighted....and then by how much to under-expose (without having to resort to splitting the various clour channles in post processing).

Good point! In the 'old' days, I used to waste several rolls of film a week going after daffdils - and in the past few years, its been at least 500 MB a day!! I think I may be getting closer...but still the "definitive" daffodil shot has eluded me!

LOL! That's the beauty of it - this yellow menace turns up every spring - so there is no escape - and no excuse either!

Thanks for your comments.

hehe...I see you've intecepted me in here! God to see a familair face. Thanks for your contribution. I like the first shot - good use of the vast open background.

I started this thread because I wanted to see how others shoot daffs. So I just thought to myself - why not get members from other forums involved to show us what's possible!
