Canon 20D compared to Canon 30D

During the Commonwealth Games I was asked to use some film cameras
(remember what they are?).
Yes. And even Manual focus cameras (my brother still has one, a Nikon...forget model number now).
Compared to my 10D they were extremely
noisey and actually made the camera jump when taking a photo. My
10D is much quieter than I thought.
The 10D from what I have seen is a fine camera. From what I have read it is one of the quieter DSLR's in the Canon line.

It's interesting how Canon marketing can spin things around.

The 20d has a shutter cycle rating of 100,000 shots (proven by Canon support)
The 30d has a shutter cycle rating of 100,000 shots (in the marketing material).
Yet, Canon says the 30d has a redesigned and more durable shutter.

While I don't believe the last statement is false, I do question why they both have the same cycle rating, yet say one is more "durable" than the other.

It is conclusive. The Canon 30D at 5FPS is much quieter than the
20D at 5fps. I did this in a quiet room. It appears Canon has
listened to its users and made the new 30D quieter.

I recorded a Wav. file. Any way I can upload it to PBase? Here is
a screenshot of the noise pattern of both cameras. The 20D sound
is on thge left side. The 30D sound is on the right-side.

Any personal attacks from me are a temporary lack of judgment on my
part and I apologize before it happens.

Uploaded replacement files for the 20D shots. Just saved over
older ones.
hahahah now your 30D shot (Neutral lowest sharpening) seems OOF

sorry.. not laughint at you but at Canon's stupid policies of 'AF
tolerance' for their consumer bodies...
That's why it's a good idea whe testing to take several shots and pick the best one of the bunch. I was too tired at the time.....that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.....
I mean for crying out
loud.. a $1200 body should be freaking consistent with it's
focusing.. is that too much to ask?
I hear the 1D MKII AF's much more reliably....but I'm not willing to pay a couple thousand dollars more for it ;)

shutter, then the 10d is the one for you.
Yes, I keep hearing about this. I suppose it was one of the quieter Canon DSLRs. I did get a chance to hold a 10D long time ago and thought it felt like I was holding a brick (this is just my opinion). I prefer the ergonomics of a 20D/30D.

I bought the 30D to replace my 10D. I compared the shutter sounds
and the 30D is a little louder than the 10D.
Never having fired a shutter on a 10D myself that is saying a lot about the noise of the 30D if it is just "a little louder than the 10D".
It is a different
kind of sound too. I compared the 30D to my friends 20D and it is
the same basic sound, but the 30D is a little quieter.
If you get another shot at it, have your friend stand a feet or more away from you while firing the shutters from both cameras. I think you will see a more noticeable difference in the two sounds.

that you are so sensitive to shutter sound. Unbelievable.
What is unbelievable? Shutter/mirror noise is something many do notice. Believe it. You likely have not read many of the posts here on this very subject.
If you
are that sensitive get the 10d. It's a good camera and it'll save
your ears.
Don't care for your sarcasm. What does wanting a quieter shutter/mirror sound have anything to do with saving ones ears? Next time do a search here and read up on the subject instead of being a smarta**

I have not read anything where Canon claims the shutter life of the 20D is 100,000. Nothing!

it at one time. Somewhere! Darned if I remember where. Doesn't make any difference anyhow. Most will upgrade in a cycle or two. Some will every cycle. No prob.
