I have now purchased a DX3900 and have taken and printed my first pictures. One of them looks like the couch, which is very dark green, has brown all over it and there is a brown narrow strip surrounding it. In another picture, my puppy has a blue collar and the blue is on the couch where he is sitting. Can anyone help me? I am using a HP940 and Kodak Premier paper. However, the color is like this before I print it. It apparently is not the printer, but the camera (i.e. me, myself and I)

Thank you very much.

Yes, the pictures are in focus. I will need to find a place to post online. I am just beginning this.

Hopefully the link below will take you to my pictures. If not, maybe someone can tell me how to do it.

i think the flash is the culprit. try standing further away or using a diffuser...

maybe faster shutters might help...(via exposure comp. feature)

i don't know how much effort you want to put into this. maybe a
piece of paper over the flash might help.

I don't mind putting time into it. I have spent quite a bit of money on the camera, etc. and want to have as good pictures as possible. I have seen some really good pictures with the 3900 but so far I am a little disappointed. I realize it is probably me but that doesn't make the pictures any better. :-)

Maybe you could have someone else print out some of your DX3900 images for you, even if it costs a few extra dollars. That way, you could see how it turns out, from the way that they do it. How does that sound for an idea?

I think printing these images is quite an art. Once you discover the right combination between the type of printer and paper, it might work out well. I haven't yet (myself) taken it seriously to print out images. I like just viewing them on my computer. For those that are old enough to remember, remember when slides were so popular in the 1960's? Viewing the images on the monitor, reminds me of the "slides" period of photography.

Patsy, I hope that you can press forward and figure it out. Let us know how you do. Here's another idea. Could you have someone email you an image from another quality digital camera like a Nikon or Canon of the same megapixel setting etc.? Then you could try and print out the image with your printer and paper with that.

If someone would please send me a picture as Rick suggests, I would appreciate it. But I don't think it is so much the printing as the picture. The bleeding is on the picture before it prints... It prints just like the picture so it is not just the printing, if I am making sense here...

I am going to give this my best shot. I am a pretty determined old lady when I make up my mind to do something...

disregard rick's suggestion. This is light problem not printer nor camera.
no disrespect intended, but if you look at the pictures, you will know what
i mean.
  1. 1 get and USE a tripod.
Main problem is SHINY couch. So NO built in camera flash.

when did you take those pictures? Can you get more light into the room so as to not use the camera flash?

Its kind of like taking a picture through glass.

Are they good puppies? If they can keep still for say 1 - 2 seconds,
we might use either the .7 sec - however many to get the proper
exposure. that would be the most hassle free option.

Can you get some flood lights on the puppies? 100watt minimum
and at least 2. Position the lights above and right or left of you.

Hmmm I see that the dx39 does not have a pc flash sync port.
Other option would be to get a slave flash unit w/ a optical trigger.
You need to deflect the flash on your camera either at the ceiling
or the slave flash unit.

Acorntree brings up a good point. I assumed that you had taken other pictures (including outside photos) with your DX3900 and had printed them out also. Probably my bad assumption. That's why I suggested looking at images from another digital camera.

When there's any problem that I'm trying to solve, I try to break it apart into little pieces. By experimenting with such fragmentation through trial and error, you can often identify the culprit.
